I know Kentsfield will have support from lga775...but will anything else after that be supported? I couldn't find what comes after conroe, besides kentsfield but I, and I'm guessing many others, don't care about quad core, 2 cores is nice headroom but 4 is overkill for me..if conroe will be the last chip supported besides Kentsfield for 965/975 I might just go to am2, get a cheap x2, and wait for k8l, figuring that 2.9ghz from amd is still really fast..no 3.7ghz conroe but it'll be good.

no point in gettnig an AM2 and hoping for k8l, by the time it ships there will be new am2 boards with new "must have" features that you will want to upgrade to anyway... i'd say go with conroe...you can easily drop in a kentsfield if it ever feels slow.

...whats after kentsfield is still a LONG time away, no point in worrying about it

It may be the Quad-core on a single die chip, but I'm not sure if that will be for 965/975 or Intels roadmapped socket.

well, anything that is change in architecture..will they have a new dual core chip for the 965/975 series? such as the transition from presler to conroe..?

anyone? what comes after kentsfield and will it be supported by 965/975?Penryn. This is a die shrink, but also features a new material design, such as a switch from silicon dioxide gate dielectrics to hi-k dielectrics, according to this article: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2649.

That Penryn thing... I personally guess won't be supported by 965/975

it will feature officially 1333FSB, which is definitely not being "officially" supported by 965 family.

So Penryn for new chipsets... wander what number they will use.... 995? 1095? LOL
