The only retailer that I have found to sell this MB is CDW. No other retailer has them in stock. When I spoke to a retailer he tells me the reason is that Asus is making way for the conroe compatible motherboards. He would not share what MBs were coming to him as he had no eta as of yet. But he did say that he was told by them to expect a replacement in the near future. Even he wasn't sure which mb was going to replace this. Is it the 1.03G thats been rumored?

Asus did rev1.03g of P5WD2-E, so discontinuing P5WD2-E has non sense...

BTW i see them @stock in some etailers

This is a message I got from ASUS R&D about P5WD2-E Premium and its life. :)

"Unfortunately P5WD2-E Premium won't support Conroe. The board has to be re-designed to support it. I don't think it would work even if you 'mod' it. That's why we roll out P5W DH Deluxe, to support Conroe yet offers 'digital home' features to try to differentiate from other vendors.

In the future P5WD2-E Premium will be phased out gradually, instead of redesigning it."

Didn't you see P5WD2-E Rev 1.03G @ computex ? AndreYang showed it with a clear "Core 2 Duo Support" stick on it... ;)

Regards!

I hate to bust your bubble but I also called Asus and the guy told me they were not phasing out the board. So there is conflicting stories as well as the 1.03g posted by the other user. And, lets make this simple, the P5W FH Deluxe looks like a re-designed P5WD2-E Premium so that part of the statement given to you is false.

Time will say...

BTW I will not buy a P5W DH under any circumstance... If rev1.03g-> i RMA my dead P5WD2-E for several months praying to get a rev1.03g. If not, ill go with DFI...

I called them because no retailer at the time sold the board. So I called them to find out what was going on  Thats when he told me they had no plans on phasing out the board...so none of this makes any sense because I know I called them. As a matter of fact I will call them again. This kind of information is confusing.

This was the motherboard I had and planning to get for Conroe. I hope they will make it, I hate the DH SATA config :(

I just called them again at 1-502-995-0993 (510-739-3777 does not have information on the board) spoke to tech support who advised that the board is not discontinued. He suggested that a revision was made thus the reason none of the sellers had them. However, he can't verify what revision was made. He did mention that they are aware of the marvel rad debockle but again, is not sure of what was done other then new capacitors, new traces, etc. This was his explaination of why no one has the MB but will slowly filter back into market.

I dislike it, 4pin power conector ( what the hell were they thinking ? no pressler on it ? ¬¬ ), digital home c*ap, and so on... If i have the P5WD2-E 40€ cheaper, and maybe better in some terms, why should i even consider the P5W DH ? No thanks, if i must buy another than P5WD2-E, it will be a DFI.

Regards! :toast:

BTW very good news Eastcoasthandle, what i was thinking, tho. ;)

Thats exactly what I am doing. I will wait and buy the best there is at the same time as the CPU.
From I have seen in other threads the new DH motherboard doenst Vdroop that much, so it might be better. I will like to see more motherboards on the market before I spend my $$.

here is your 1.03G, this should kill any idea of the older mb supporting conroe

however, this P5WD2-E Prem is different from the version we have. Look at the
mosfets and caps. some are different and this board looks like it has 8 phase...

Also PCI layout is different, they had to change the power regulation for conroe, that's why it's 8 phase i think... The layout is pretty the same from the first PCIe to the right than the P5W DH, just this P5WD2-E has 8pin power connector...

From what I gathered so far it appears that asus uses revision Rev1.03G when using VRM11. If true both P5B Deluxe and P5W DH Deluxe should both read 1.03g can someone with a P5W DH Deluxe post a photo of the revision. P5B is already posted
