Hi everyone, I have an old s478 Prescott 3.0 stepping D0, how much it is possible to overclock it ? What's avarange on those kind? I got only standard box cooler and that's why I ask - I don't know if it's worth investing better cooling but still on air or it won't help anything other than lower temps? I tried to overclock it as it is, everything stock, no mods, it was stable at 233 FSB about 1.4 Vcore (1:1 mem, Asus P4P800 SE mobo). Max I tried to get stable was 250 FSB (4:5 divider so mem at 200 Mhz), but when I was testing with prime at highest volts I could set, PC just turned off after some time - is it from high temp (well it reached about 78 or sth; ) or maybe power supply too weak for this setup ? It's only some crappy 350 W

I think most of those will do 3.8-3.9. I could get 4.0 on my D0 but it wasn't completely stable. I'm not familiar with those coolers, I was using an XP-90. They can be found at jab-tech for pretty cheap. At the time my PSU was an Antec 400 watt.

Well I couldn't run it at 4.0, max I could do any benches was about 3.85 or sth, but it was very unstable, so even with very good cooling it won't go beyond 3.8 Ghz ? And any clue why it switch off under max load at 3.75 ?

Overclocking a 478 prescott with the stock cooler is not a good idea.
Temps at stock speeds are too much for the stock cooler.

78 degrees and it crapped out....go figure! 60 to 65 should be the max heat. Even then you should be shooting for mid to high 50`s.
