View Full Version : 2 MB Cache Core duo - Alendale questions.

Does anyone have any info about the performance of these CPUs? I am considering going conroe, but I'm off to uni in October and could do with a bit of spare cash.

Doing some maths, I could break even with a E6300/6400 rig. I could go for an E6600, but it'd cost me a bit more. Not out of budget or anything, but I don't really want to spend much more on my PC right now.

Would an E6300 be fster clock/clock than my Opty 165?

Yup. It's the same as Conroe, but it has only 2 MB.

Well from the article, they are faster clock/clock.

Any idea how they OC?

If the E6300 can do 7 x 400 on water, it'll be a pocket rocket :)

early A1 stepping Allendales OCed to >3.1Ghz (FSB limited). i feel they will OC just as good as the 4MB cache chips....again though, FSB limitations may be a big problem with the 7x multi on less expensive MBs.

Thats the thing...the lower multi doesnt help with overclocking.. even if the option was there in BIOS to go to 500...500x7 is only 3500... fast, yes, but still far from its full potential :(

The only problem of E63/E64 is the low multi (7x/8x).

For instance, to do 2.8 GHz with the E63, you'll need 400 FSB, wich is the virtual max of many P965 boards. :rolleyes:

I had a a E6300 B0, but was limited by the fsb. My bad axe only went to 406fsb. The chip could run everything at 2840mhz, and the volts were 1.4 in bios, but the board was the limiting factor.
I advise u to go for the E6400, as this chips easily go to 3Ghz.

Has anyone got any figures for clock/clock comparisons between allendale and conroe?

We've already seen FSBs of 400 MHz+. And it appears that most will do over 3 GHz. 450 x 8 = yummy :)

This is the only review so far that I've seen comparing a 2MB Conroe with other processors. They tested a 2MB 1.86Ghz Conroe and a 4MB 2.13GHz Conroe.

The extra cache does add a boost, but the E6300 still performs pretty well, even in stock form it should match up with a 4600+.

i have an E6300 stock volts on everythign does 400x7 on water and air

what have you been able to use one? i dont see anyone in the xs forums using one. I dought this is the case all some of us can do is wait and test ourselves. I can say i will be one to get the Abit AB9-PRO and should the $$ allow it a Abit AW9D-MAX.

Clock for clock, I'd beat it in 32m I bet....

BUT, the Allendale should be priced quite a bit less than the yonah.....

That article has a bunch of stuff wrong with it, first of all Conroe XE with 1.33GHZ FSB won't arrive till Q2 2007 minimum with Bearlake and Weybridge Pro chipsets and official support of 1.33GHZ FSB.

E6500, E6200, E6100 may or may not have enough room to exist in the first place.

It is now extremely doubtful that the E6900 will even exist in Q4. With the XE being on 1.06GHZ FSB.

The pricing is way off you can't just use +30 or +120 divisions based on Intel's past pricing charts. These are the model we know with reasonable certainty.

E4200 1.60GHZ/800FSB/2MB Q4 1xxUS Q4

E6300 1.86GHZ/1066FSB/2MB 183US Q3
E6400 2.13GHZ/1066FSB/2MB 224US Q3

E6600 2.40GHZ/1066FSB/4MB 316US Q3
E6700 2.66GHZ/1066FSB/4MB 530US Q3

If I was Intel I would do this in Q4 based on past pricing estimates. these is my OWN PREDICTION don't go quoting it as some truth. :D This is assuming we even get a price drop in this period.

Introduce X6900 for 999US, Reduce E6700 down to 423US, introduce E6800 at 637US, introduce E6500 at 224US, E6400 down to 183US, E6300 down to 163US, introduce E4200 for 143US, introduce Pentium D 925 133US.
