Quick question about my new 7950GX2 from club3d.. Have anybody tried it on P5WD2-Premium? (x955 chipset).. With bios 0704 It was no go at all, couldnt install drivers in winxp. With 0709 Iam able to install drivers, but when I launch a game or internet explorer the machine reboots.

Tried drivers 91.27 (on the cd), 91.29 and 91.31

I know that the x955 is supported but maybe not the ASUS P5WD2 board?

In advance, thanks!

I think technically it's still SLI, so you'll need modded drivers.

the 7950 is two gpus on board running sli so you need an sli board or hacked drivers or it will not work!

Would that not make it run at 4x though?

One problem again tho.. Only one gpu at the card works now.. fxxxing drivers.. :(

"SLI multi-GPU rendering har been disabled

SLI multi-gpu rendering has been changed to independent GPU rendering because one of your SLI cards has been removed.

SLI multi-GPU rendering requires two or more graphics cards"

This is the message that pops up every time I restart..!

I don't think it's the drivers, rather it's the mobo's BIOS, otherwise Nvidia wouldn't make a point of publishing the BIOS revision.

According to [H]ardOCP: (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTA4MywyLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==)

NVIDIA did however run into some compatibility issues getting the GeForce 7950 GX2 working correctly with many motherboards. It seems that they were running into some issues concerning the fact that they are using their own PCI-Express controller and motherboards were not able to identify it and interface with it. Luckily all that is needed to overcome this problem is a system BIOS update according to NVIDIA. NVIDIA currently has an growing list of motherboards and what BIOS versions you need if you want to run a single GeForce 7950 GX2. So check the site out and update your system BIOS or else you won’t be able to use this new video card.

you only need the hacked drivers to enabled SLI on intel chipsets

Yes, but, where do you get them?

Its NOT a driver issue. For the record, you do not need an SLI chipset or an SLI capable motherboard to run the 7950GX2.

As noted above, the only issue you might have is a mobo BIOS issue. Some boards simply struggle with detecting the PCI-E controller on the vid card. It has nothing to do with whether or not the board is actually SLI capable.

I'd send Asus an email about a pending BIOS update.

Also, try installing your driver from the Device Manager versus the autostart on the CD. That helped me with my driver install on my Expert.

Need a bios update from ASUS then.. Personally I dont think it will come. Whatever, conroe soon anyway. You're going to need a BIOS that says: Support 7900 Series VGA cards. That's what the BIOS update (1205 dated 5/16/2006) for my A8N32-SLI said. Currently none of the P5WD2 boards look like they accept the 7950, BIOS-wise.

Are you on driver 91.31? If so it might just be buggy drivers, I'm getting the same error on a AGP machine.

This is a myth and completely false. You DON'T need a Sli ready motherboard to use the 7950GX2.

You need a Bios update that's all..

Well, just to say that i had to put the beta bios on my p5wd2-e premium to support the xfx 7950gx2, with the other ones i could't install the driver properly...

upgrade to beta bios 0601 and the card should work...

Hope the tips are helpfull....
