POST!

To bad no one is getting AM2 as I think this is a promising board. I'd try it but foxconn ftw ;)

First thing this board only goes to 2.3 for vdimm.
It tracks vtt really well.
Vdimm does not fluctuate and neither does vcore.
I set it to 1.55 reports as 1.55.
It has an issue with cold boots, bios update needed.
I am testing for max cpu currently at 10*270 at 1.55 running 32m super pi.

althes
06-17-2006, 04:47 AM
the board holds 1t real good so far

althes
06-17-2006, 05:54 AM
So far I am at 10*285 going good so far.
need better ram, will have to get some of that corsair 8500 next week.

althes
06-17-2006, 12:59 PM
I was able to get to 10*290 stable but I lost 3 sticks of ram today.
So testing ahs come to an end.
All corsair 5400 sticks at that.

max HTT?
max raw speed?
RAM clocks?

sorry to hear about the 7900GT :(

althes
06-25-2006, 04:09 AM
For the vcore using 1.55 its very stable.
max vdimm is 2.30 very stable
I am having issues using forware 91.21 and 91.31 drivers even of new install
Ratios for memory are ddr 400, 533,675,800
Have not tested max HTT

My board arrives monday. Hoping a new BIOS is out soon. You cannot change CAS on this board (WTF Abit?) and my current RAM has no SPD for CAS 5, so I don't see much hope for a good OC until a BIOS is released that allows you to change the CAS.

knacky
06-27-2006, 12:20 PM
i change my abit kn9 sli for a new one and i flashed the new 1.2 bios
cas latency and command rate now works very well so thanks for that
but performance issues with athlon 64 3000+ am2 remains
i put my cpu at 300x8.5=2550 and ddr2 at 533(/7) 5-5-5-15-21-2t to speed like ddr2-729
sandra mesures 3184/2680 for cpu and 1644/1635 for memory
how this possible?
2550mhz in cpu and only 3184/2680 and ddr2-729 in memory and only 1644/1635
after further investigation seems that cpu multiplier don't work
the cpu-z reports 200x9.0 but cpu acts like 200x4.0
seems another bug in bios
please test athlon 64 3000+ am2 and see with your eyes

knacky

yes is set to 8.5x
i know half multis don't work well
but in default 200x9.0 don't work either

thank you very much gferrac from abit usa forums
i don't have any sound blaster card
but your help is awesome
i find the problem are related with skystar2 drivers
the 2 pci slots are mapped to irq 11
irq 7 and 9 are free so i don't understand why using 11
now the system works well without skystar2

Good to see you're getting the board to work, nach :) Change the ram timings to 4-4-4-8 (or tras=12 if 8 doesn't go) trc=12 2t and just go for crazy high mem clocks. 1t walls around 400mhz no matter what at any timings so you might as well go 2t and pick up an extra 100mhz or more.

Yes, now I can OC also from bios, I don't know why:confused:
Ok, I will try this mem settings but with my PC2 4300 it will be not easy to go over 370/380 4-4-4-
I will try with 2.2 or 2.3V.
With a little bit low ambient temp I think it's possible to bench over 2.9GHz:)
TKS for the info.:toast:

Board arrived two days late thanks to UPS. Good news is, no problems with the GSkill DDR2 (so many issues with the MSI board, I was worried). Installed benching OS and played a little (very little). Will do more testing later, but so far, board is rock solid.

Amiteriver, I notice that you are at 316 HTT - is that the highest?
Reason I'm asking is that Anandtech have now had 2 570 boards top out ~there (318 iirc) & they are theorising that the 570s are somehow being limited so as not to hit the same clocks as 590s ...

Heartfixer

Errr... Did you guys notice that there is NO PCI LOCK on this board?
Or is it I'm blind? BIOS 1.2.
Damn, Abit is dissapointing... again :(

bios 1.2 causes that the original bios is ok.

Don't really have a clue but might have to do with the better NB heatsinks on the 590s? It gets pretty toasty. This Abit board kinda needs the whole thing reseated with AS Ceramic - it uses plastic tape - from the factory

So wtf, I loose CAS adjustment to PCI lock? Damn Abit :slap:

And about the cooling, the two-hot-ends-heatpipe-system is a big brainfart (TM), since the whole heatpipe cooling idea is about a hot end and a cool end. By cooling the MCP on the mosfets (that is Abit's idea), you get only heat migrating from the hotter end to the cooler end... which can be exactly viceversa - so you get the VCore PSU cooling on the already hot MCP.

Wtf is wrong with Abit :(

I have the foxconn 590 and the SPP sink is pretty decently sized and it gets HOT at STOCK. I reseated it with ceramique but haven't tested. Waiting to run dice.

tictac.......out of curiousity, you wouldn't happen to be working on a BIOS for this board, would you?
I'm having problems getting past 266 with this board and GSkill DDR 533. The RAM ran great at 667 in my Asus p5wd2 premium. I've tried a ton of settings and it just isn't stable past 266, but it's rock solid there.

Well, I finally bought it and it should be here wensday! WhooHoo

I'll post my results when it's here.

I've got

Abit K9N SLi (obviously)
G.Skill DDR2 800
A64 3500

Just got the Artic Cooling 64 pro, giving my sempy around 26*c haha should do great.

Also nabbed a Zalman VF-900 led to cool my XFX7900GT and ditch the incredibly loud stock fan/hs.

The beta BIOS is no better than the 12 BIOS they released and quickly pulled. Still no working DDR 667 divider, still unstable above 266 and no working PCI lock. If this is a taste of the official release, the board is doomed for the trash bin.

tictac

so... Bios Version : 13 beta

Cons
1) PCI lock dont work when overclock
2) DDR 667 divider still dont work
3) PCI-E voltage will slowly raise to a point were the BIOS sends warning messages

Pro
1) pci slots, cas latency and command rate adjustments works

Any other issue please post it here... Thanks

hello i have an ABIT KN9S (very similar to the sli one) and 2x1GB kingston 533 that overclock to more than 900.
my problem is that whe i put 667 in bios the PC doesnt boot, and the same with 800.
why is this? i have put 2,2v in dimms and nothing.
is there any probles with timmings? i have the bios 16
