okay - I am confused...I have sygate but this can apply to any other simular firewall like Zone Alarm etc etc etc

When you shutdown your PC, does the firewall still run and block data?
When I shut miy PC down, I choose for Sygate to "Block All" untill I reboot again and continue my "normal" settings.

I just know that all apps are killed during the shutdown so I am confused.

Any help?

Your computer can be turned on remotely with Wake On Lan if you have it available.

Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.

I am jsut worried that some on will hack into my system even while off (is that possible?) bcz the firewall is shutdown with the pc.

I am on cable so I assumed that I always maintain a connection.

Well yeah kinda. If your modem stays on you always have an available connection. But the only way someone would be able to hack into your turned off computer is if you had wake on lan enabled. Wich most likely you don't. If your really worried about it get a router or a firewall/switch like Netgear's fr114p (http://www.netgear.com/products/prod_details.asp?prodID=140&view=)

Check here (http://www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Network_Monitoring/Wake_On_Lan/)

I can understand your worries, but honestly, its not needed. Even more-so if you actually shut the system down when your done.

The one thing you can do to be positive that no-one could bugger with it, is just disable the Wake-On-Lane as Smiz said, if thats disabled, I know of no other way for someone to remote start your computer.
