Hey Guys

I am new to the fourm and I am happy that I found this fourm. I am BIG INTEL fan and I am planning to build my first 64bit System. This entire system is around Intel's new Conroe Desktop Platform. I am not a hardcore gamer. I just wanted to build a really good system.

Here is what I have so far as of Hardware Setup. IF something needs to be changed, I am open for Opinions.

System Name: Fusion Power Generation II

Thermaltake Armor Jr. VC3000BWS Case
IntelĀ® Desktop Board D975XBX (Waiting for the new Revision)
IntelĀ® 975X Chipset
Intel Conroe Processor
Nvidia 7600GT Graphic Card
ViewSonic VA1912wb 19 LCD Monitor
LogitechĀ® Z-5500 Digital Speakers
Western Digital Raptor X Hard Drive (150GB, 10,000 RPM and so on)

If something doesn't fit right, I am listening.

If you guys can also give me your opinion of what Power Supply and What Processor Fan I should get for my new system. I really need help in this department.

Well I just wanted to get your guys opinion on the system planning. I am also listening for any suggestions you guys may have.

Thx for all the help. I am glad I found this Fourm!

P.S. Fusion:woot: :toast:

true youll also want to probably upgrade to 4 when vistas out so make sure you motherboard supports 8gb. although i think all the conroe supporting boards do.

If youre in the UK www.lambda-tek.com have the Rev 304. GSkill are selling some competitively priced 2GB DDR2 kits, OCZ and Corsair are worth a look too. PSUs, look for Tagan 580 Watt, FSP 600 or 700 Watt, Enermax Liberty 620 Watt, OCZ Powerstream 600 Watt. Coolers, Zalman CNPS 9500, Scythe Ninja, Thermaltake Big Typhoon.

While the 7600gt will be Vista comapatable, you won't be able to run any of that special "aero glass" crap with a DX9 card. You also won't be able to play DX10 games with DX10 effects. But by the time you might actually want to run Vista, (think 2008), DX10 cards will be cheap anyway.

When will DX10 cards officially drop retail?

DX10 looks to be sometime from this September to early 2007.

You might consider throwing a TV tuner card in there as well since Vista ships with Media Center... probably best to wait on compatibility info though.

Its a myth that vista uses that much ram. I have the latest version of vista on my xps lappy with a gig and i had no problem what so ever, usualy only 25% used, when a game starts vista dumps its cache so it would only use like 100-150mb of ram when you are gameing... vista does use alot more ram than xp but it also manages it better and doesent tie it up.

Vista is ram hungry because it still has all of the debugging code left in, which eats up ram. Still, 2 gb is always nice. The F2-6400PHU2-2GBZX from G.Skill can be found for a good price. I'm just wondering how they make it intel only

Definitely go for a PSU with modular design (which means you attach the power cables however you wish).
My current PSU has a REALLY stable current and I recommend it from the bottom of my heart.

2GB is just standard to deal with today's games, OS aside.

That and I'd wait on a DX10 card to be truly "Vista ready", which may mean a sizable PSU (~700W+) to deal with the newer gen GPUs that run SM4.0 and are DX10 ready.

I have nvidia 5700LE right now and I have no problems running Vista Beta 2 right now. I am pretty use by the time I get my Graphic Card, their will be DX10 Graphic Cards out their. But if you have any graphic cards that you would recommend, I am listening.

Regarding the Ram situation, I believe the 975 board is gona support up to 8GB of Ram. I plan to have alteast 4GB! (Good Ram Brand Recommanded?)

Can you guys please recommend me good Power Supplies that are gona be compatiable with the 975XBX Board (Conroe). (Any Good Brand to look for)?

Thx to all for your input!:woot:  :toast:
