its a gimmick

they won't have then in June

they will have your money in their pocket at their pricing today if you do buy

there is NO NEED to pre-order Conroe. there will be plenty for all on release day.

Only 25% of intel's CPU shipments will be Conroe....

Then you have OEMS such as HP and Dell that get theirs first and they are going to buy a bunch...

Word is that availability will be very slim in the retail channel....

just have to wait and see.

Actually, I think FCG might be right on this one. There's no real PC rush in the summer, OEM's would be rather stupid to clean out Intels Conroe supply.
Sure there will be a boost in sales, but the real shortage should be late August. So if Intel launches on time everyone should be ok to get one.

FCG, why do you there will be plenty?
Doesn't everyone want a Conroe? And 25% just looks not enough...
So many people are delaying their upgrade just for Conroe.

Ingram Micro is one of the major hardware distributor..They sell to retailer.
If they have it on stock then that means a few days or a week before Newegg and alike will have it on sale.

Sure Dell will get their share first, but Otellini said there will be upto a 60% price cut on Pentiums. I think Dell will be selling a lot more of the fully loaded hot deals with those Pentiums before they start on massive sells with top dollar CPU(s). Plus they promised a ramp up in production on CPU(s) and chipsets. Right?

I also see them available at Ingram Micro. I am not seeing them at my other distributor though. Hopefully they get them soon.

True. And most people that buy dell look at the number. They see a Pentium D at 3.4Ghz for the same price as a Core 2 Duo at 2.1Ghz, they will buy the 3.4Ghz because it's "faster" in their mind.

It's not the same market crowd. I still have faith that I will be able to get my hand on a Core 2 duo Cpu by the end of July.
