View Full Version : Alright, little bit of help with my E6600/Bad Axe?

When I set FSB to 1333 it wont post, it beeps at me. When I boot @ 1067 and use clockgen to 1333 it's fine, and priming stable. Any special reason it wouldn't post?

Also, how accurate are the temp readings on this board? It's telling me 58C in speedfan on load :(

I'm not really the guy to listen to on this subject, but I think that the badaxes were giving bad temp readings about 8-10c too high, i think 58c is definitely bogus and you shouldn't worry about it.

As for FSB, what's the ram at?

The BIOS temp is way way off IMO. At least with my 920 it is.

The RAM is rated DDR2-800 4-4-4-12, I have it @ 1:1 which would be DDR2-667 4-4-4-12. It SHOULD be 66mhz under spec still...

EDIT: Booting @ 1067mhzx126% (or 1333mhz) works...

well, ah, its not really cool because I want it to boot 1333 and then be able to add percentage points from there :S

Wounder if it's a BIOS thing ? {no boot set to 1333

I don't understand the FSB percentage thing.

CompGeek

Kinda like vcore on the DFI NF4 boards. You add percentage points to the FSB (Up to 30%)

Umm, it's doing 3025mhz @ stock voltage...

Have you downloaded the latest bios? Read OPBs thread.;)

Some recommend 0908, but if that's the ver. that's giving you problems, try something newer.

I have 0618... so ill give 0908 a go. What makes 0908 better than the latest revisions though?

Well... I don't know that for sure but from my experience with bios... I almost never use the newest one. I use the oldest one that works. newer does not always mean better. I only upgrade when I have a problem (like you do now). And it seems that people are having luck with the 0908 so I would try that first.

hehe. Probably... It's Absolute0's fault I came here too... I quite like it here.... Lots of overclocking stuff at a much higher level then the OCU on Gamespot.

I'll say, try the PCH Union ;)

Guess who....

UPDATE: Updated my bios to 0908, now it will boot @ 1333, it just stays @ 1066 :S

hehe... That's pretty easy :P... Cept I haven't seen anyone called a noob by you yet :D. BTW.. you have a PM... Shortly...

Edit: back to topic...

I belive I am using an 0809 bios and they are up to like 1103 or something for my motherboard.

I just talked about this with Stephen this afternoon, I can set it as 1333mhz fsb and ram set as 667mhz, it boots up no doubt but when it gets into windows, it still show 4:5 under CPUZ. Looks like proportion is correct but fsb never gets there; it is supposely the 1:1 right? but never been the case.

E6600 rev ? newer B0 ?

It was the same here with almost all bioses. Did you load windows immediately after flashing?

Here is how I solved it:
* Load optimal defaults
* boot windows
* start flashing ***EB.exe
* it updates bios and restarts
* immediately enter bios and load defaults
* then save, exit and turn off power before even starting to load windows
* then power on, and again enter bios, load defaults, save exit
* load windows, restart again, enter bios and set fsb :D

This might be shorter but at least it worked for me

Do you have B0 step?

And BTW, my board died with bios 0908 and winXP 64bit during 3dmark

doesnt he need to do the 'unlock bios for all options' mod?

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99298

"When you boot and enter the BIOS you will have full control over CPU VID (vcore), Enhanced Power Slope (reduces vdroop to 50% default), and Default Bus Override (533, 800, 1066, 1333Mhz) with the ability to go 30% over your set FSB!"

as far as i know, you first have to do the mod in order to go to 1333mhz bus.

Not if you have 304 board and B0 step cpu :)

yes my BIOS are hardmodded unlocked

yes i have a B0

kiwi your story scares me... i dont want to kill it.

Flash to 0908.
Power down completely.
Enter BIOS in Maintenance Mode (move jumper).
Load Optimal Defaults
Exit BIOS.
Power down completely.
* REMOVE BATTERY for ~30 seconds.
* Re-insert battery.
Move jumper back to normal.
Boot and enter BIOS.
Change FSB strap and exit BIOS (system will do a cold reset on its own).

* added

:)

Well i didnt had this problem, i just go to bios (0908 or 1181) set it to 1333 (i have my ram at 533) and it always works, but then if i use speedfan, it sets my voltage to default and fsb to 1066.

To scare you more, 1 PCI slot burned a bit as well together with X-fi sound :slapass: Then board died 3 days later

CompGeek
06-11-2006, 10:39 AM
rr.... was your PCI bus OCed? :eek:

kiwi
06-11-2006, 10:46 AM
No, why would I oc PCI bus, there won't be better sound if I do :D

But it was WInXP 64bit as I said, maybe it has to do something the way 64bit instructions are executed or most likely just coincidence. I noticed also that I can bench at higher speeds than on 32bit windows

I'm having a serious issue...

When I do FarCry benchmarking... FPS consistently increase as I LOWER CPU clockspeed

3.0ghz = 68fps
2.6ghz = 78fps
2.4ghz = 85fps
2.2ghz = 95fps
2.0ghz = 100fps

What is going on?

I do... FEAR got the same FPS @ 2.4 and 3.0 (which was kinda crappy actually)

Blue078
06-11-2006, 01:48 PM
What about Quake4 at a low res? Wounder if that one would work right. I tell you the FarCry thing is strange. It has to be some sort of bug with the game code.

Could it not be that the FSB will work better on the stock speed for a core 2 proc?

Seeing as to how it communicates with the graphics card.
(ie. raising the cpu speed will give you more inefficiency / latency for the data bus?).

Seeing as how FEAR and FarCry both worked crappy and superPI didnt.
(Which doesnt excessively use the graphics card but just cpu / ram).

I dont think tis so much that. It is problem with Facry most likely. Im sure if he runs 3dmark he would notice a gain while ocing. Im sure there is some code in the games that are messing up.

ya, cause ah dude... I was at half FSB (133x9 = 1200mhz) and scores were only increasing.
