Will I be able to use my existing Alpha Pal 8045 on an Abit NF7-S revision 1.2 mobo, with a Barton 2800+? Will this provide enough cooling, using a TT fan pushing up to 76 CFM (from a Volcano 9). Been using that CPU fan in conjunction with my Nexus panel and really like it.

Is this going to be enough cooling for the new Barton CPU? Running all this in a CoolerMaster ATC 201 case with 2 80 MM intake fans, one 80 MM blowhole, 1 80 MM exhaust fan, and the exhaust fan on the PC Power & Cooling 510W Turbo Cool.

Thanks for any help - just wondering if I should order the SLK 800 or not...would really like the SLK 900 but have serious doubts about it fitting on the NF7-S mobo.

Yes, the PAL8045 is still one of the best heatsinks out there.

Great, I thought it would be ok. I need to lap the base a little better, a while back I even got some spare parts from Alpha in case I lost a spring or washer.

The pal's do get a bit dusty from time to time, the coils are a magnet for dust, I've taken mine off and even washed it after blowing out the dust with compressed air.

That works pretty well (mount dry)!

the PAL8045 is one of my favorites. although, it's not the best anymore.

anyway, i've also noticed that it attracts quite a bit of dust. probably has something to do with the orientation of the fan.

The Alpha is working wonders on the Barton 2800+, max temps so far I've seen under load are from 42-44 degrees C, running Prime or other burn in software.

I'm pretty impressed how well it's doing actually, but I do miss WCPRSET/WCPREDIT, no more halt cooling.

heh, i might be picking up 2 used 8045 for a possable dualie rig i want to build.

i'm happy with the one i have, so if i have 3 i'll be even happier, right? :D

felix: I've never seen a dually AMD board so far that has holes, and/or enough clearance to mount two PAL8045s on it. Better check that before you do anything.

well, most of the MP boards i've seen have the mounting holes. the only ones that look like they'll fit on is the MSI KD7 Master and the Iwill MPX2, and i don't think it'll fit on those either. :(

i guess i'll just have to buy a couple of SK7s or something.

My results with the MSI K7D-L:

Dual 8045's - NO
Dual MCX-462's - YES
Dual AX7's - YES (have to shave a tiny bit off of both though)

thanks poopygood, i think i'm gonna go with 2 SK7s because i can get the for $20, but i have heard good things about the SVC GC68. it comes with a fan for $5.
