From all indications I'm thinking for me around September, because I want to wait for the ATI DFI Mobo which is supposedly going on sale in Aug/Sept from what I've read. Assuming of course that performance is what it seems to be now.

Anyway, I'm thinking an OC'ed conroe, an X1900XTX (maybe 2), ATI DFI board, 2 gigs ram, mmmmmm baby

im open for any time after release really. i just want to make sure that the system as a whole is well rounded. i wish dx10 videocards would roll out at the same time :comp10:

Same here. I did pretty good last year, I bought the system in my sig RIGHT when the X2's came out, I was like number 15 on the PCMark 05 record board for awhile, which wasn't bad for air cooling, and essentially I've had a machine that has been unmatched by anything unmodified retail for the past year. Now, it's time to do it again :)

August for me. Gives me time to do a few cooling mods and also wait for the DFI RD600 board.

Hopefully prices may have come down a touch or two by then as well.

I'll be getting mine as close to launch as online retailers will let me ;)

Here's my rig plan so far. By late July I hope to know whether it would be better to just get a $40 PCIe gfx card and wait for DX10 cards or whether to invest in a flagship card now (sure is poor timing, especially when everything else is coming together so nicely).

CPU($316): Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual-Core 2.40GHz 4MB L2 1066FSB
Mobo($230): ASus P5B P965 Deluxe -or- Intel 965/975 whatever Core 2 support (ATX)
RAM($150): 2GB (2 x 1GB DIMM) Dual channel PC6400 (DDR2-800) OCZ/Other.
HDs: 2 WD 7200RPM SATA2 3Gbps drives in RAID 1, fit capacity to budget
Vid($5X0): nVidia GeForce 7900GTX or ATi X1900XTX or wait for DX10
Monitor($309): Dell 1907FP 19" Flat Panel Monitor w/ 3 year warranty
GPUCooler($38): KuFormula FV1 Plus - reevaluate at time of purchase
Optical($36): Sony black DVD±RW - whichever one is $36
Case: ATX, with window, cool looking, 120mm fan(s), no ps?
PS: 500W minimum, 2x12V rail (check Extremesystems recommendations)
Speakers: evaluate at time of purchase (not a critical component)

And, before you ask about the Dell monitor, the reason I need to go with them is because I already have a Dell TFT and this will be my second monitor (and I have a thing about needing them to match!). Dell's monitors are good quality, although clearly not quite the best for gaming. Ah well.

Depending on prices, at launch or up to a month after launch. Really, all I need is ram, mobo and an E6600.

Kinda afraid that there will be too much demand and all retailers will be out of stock, a-la first 3 weeks of 7900gt launch.

I'm looking at gettting a Woodcrest system when they come out, to replace Ol' Betsy here...and then an Extreme Conroe to satisfy my urge to overclock, once the motherboards hit the shelves.

With this setup, all I'll have to do would be to swap the CPUs out next year, when Clovertown and Kentfield hit the shelves...

I'm still not sure... I know I don't want the RD600. But I don't know if I want the P5B or the P5WD2-E one... I dunno. I need to research some more...

I'm selling most of my rig to buy a conroe system. E6600 as soon as any online retailer receives them. Not sure on the mobo, whatever the best available is at the time, same goes for RAM. Video card will most likely be a 7900GTX or 7590GX2, depending on how much money I have. Hopefully Chilly1 will be back on his feet by then and i'll have that E6600 under a single stage.

Sometime over summer hopefully but it all depends on funds. I'll try and pick up an E6600, what ever the best bang for the buck mobo is out some good ddr2 and maybe a 7600gt or something that beats out this 6600non-gt or just wait for dx10 cards.

EDIT this is all when Conroe goes retail because the cost of the ES chips are rediculous and the lack of good mobo's atm.

Need an mATX mobo for it, hopefully right at launch! Looking toward the E6600, myself.

Already preordered E6600 (price around $325 + 25% VAT), should have it 2-3 days after July 23rd. Bad Axe also on order, expected to be here in less than 2 weeks, but still no confirmation if its a rev 304, so could take longer. Considered to wait for Abit AW9D, but it doesnt have any PCIe x4... Am looking into a PCIe SAS controller (Intel Parowan or something) later this year so i might need the extra PCIe slot on the Bad Axe.

I am not moving from 939 to conroe or am2 in the near feature for now I have my opteron 170@2.7ghz my next cpu will be a quadcore... don't know if it will be amd or intel lets see whats best (when they are out) and buy ;)

I'll switch/upgrade to Conroe by the end of this year. I have 4 computers at home and I upgrade 1 every six to nine months so the oldest 1 is about 2 to 3 years old. Ideally, Intel and AMD will leapfrog each other with new processor with significant performance improvement every six months. :D

I have my case already (Lian-Li PC-7BW plus II), I'm ordering my PSU next week (OCZ GameXStream) and I should be ordering a board about 3 weeks after than which will be around the time Conroe is officially released anyway so it works out.

I will be moving to conroe as soon as i can buy the e6600. just sold my amd opteron rig and ive bought a few parts for my conroe rig:

2gb g.skill pc2-6400 ddr2-800 4-4-4-12 ram.
fsp 600watt power supply (same as ocz gamexstream but cheaper)
antec slk3000b case (refuse to spend big bucks on a case period)
zalman 9500cnps led (was going to go with the scythe ninja but i wanted to be sure that it will fit in my case and that there would be little chance of incompatibilities with the conroe motherboards)

still need the motherboard (looking at the ati rd600 based ones), the cpu (duh), hard drives (looking at 2 hitachi t7k250 160gb's), and a ati radeon x1900xt.

Hopefully in September. This is going to be my first homebuilt system, and every $ counts. I want to see how the mobos flesh out in practice before I pick mine... lots of XS forum lurking ahead!

I recently gave up my pentium 4 3.4ghz so it could be used at the office, and I'm stuck using this pentium 4 2.66ghz laptop with 512mb of ram and an old ati mobility radeon 7500 graphics card. I desperately need something new. Mise well go for the best, especially with these beautiful prices they will be listed at.

I hope to buy a conroe motherboard as soon as they are released and then the conroe on July 23rd, because I believe that these things will go fast, and I will have to get one as soon as online retailers show it in stock.

Man if i could get a board i would have had my Kentsfield in a week ago, but as is i will be happy to get a board that will support conroe ASAP, having them sitting here not being used HURTS!! damn boards need to come out.
