This from Bit-Tech (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/06/08/core_2_duo_launch/)

It would seem from the talk that the chips will "probably" be realised to OEM channels around July and then onto the open market a month or two later....

…damn.

I really think it's going to be hard to get one of these chips at the beginning. So many people are just waiting for them that there is going to be a run on them with jacked up prices. I will probably get a 965 board with a 920 or something and then around xmas get one.

Thats just speculation.... I hope it isnt true... :stick:

this is pure speculation.

Official date is July 23.. that's all.. Now will you be able to find one at your local shop by this date ? this is unknown... But you will be able to get one on July 23.

I said this more than a week ago....oh no, FCG has no idea what he's talking about, we know better than him. :p: Conroe and Conroe XE will be out on July 23 and the XE will be only $999. Yeah, sorry. Not ready for release yet. ;)

Anyway, on July 23, the Pentium D 805 should be $93. If Core 2 Duo is too hard to find, it can be a solution to wait a bit.

I already bought few part for my Core 2 setup, so I'm really waiting for it :p:

The Bit-Tech article is mostly conjecture. Notice the title of the article says "may not launch" as opposed to "will not launch" until September. We shall see.

Everybody is talking about the gigh end cpu's. But what about the rather budget version of the conroe... What about that ? ;)

davefr

I'm sure Intel and the major OEM's will stand up on 7/23 and launch Conroe. The launch date is likely when the OEM's and Intel can and will start Conroe based sales.

I think what Bit Tech is trying to say is that widespread availability probably won't occur until Aug/Sept. A major launch like this is a process vs. an event and shipments represent a ramp with the first units being allocated to the major OEMs.

If Intel starts shipping to distributers late July it's unlikely that we'll be able to walk into Fry's and get a boxed Conroe for a least 4-6 weeks later.

Dang, I just had lunch too! I won't be hungry for our date with Conroe, blast it! I heard they were having deluxe catering at the Tavern On The Green, to top it all off!

Haha, seriously, I'm sure FCG's right... this is just speculation that anyone could have thought of.

All I can say is its a good thing I went and got a socket T chip to play with while I wait for Conroe launch, it'll be interesting to see what this 920D will do on air.

No, it's not; for lower cost you'll want it out sooner so as to get past the initial price gouging period.

Maybe I should be more precise... More time to save for the Extreme Edition... If it delays long enough I will get that...

thunderstruck!

We have heard many suggestions about when Intel will launch its Core 2 Duo processors, but none of the suggested dates seemed to make sense to us. The only time frame that has been officially confirmed by Intel is when it expects to ship to its OEM customers.
Sounds like they just made this up. July 23rd, you can get a Conroe.

as long as it is a good launch (like the X1900s), prices shouldn't soar all that much.

Torin

Any talk of a delays to the July 23rd date is just AMD fanboys wanting to delay the inevitable loss of the performance crown.

Intel already delayed the release of the 965 chipset to more closely coincide with the release of Conroe, and they just released that, what 2 days ago? It only makes sense that they would stick to the July 23rd date, as motherboard makers should have ample time to have boards out by then.

Why the hell would you want that?! Horrible bang vs. buck value, though I could see why you'd want to do it if you planned on running stock, but if you OC it makes no sense at all as by buying a higher clocked stock chip it'll just mean that you'll have less OC head room. The EE's always have less OC potential than the lower clocked versions, sort of like the 300A...

Conroe is too high class for McDonald's! Maybe if we go to lunch with the E6300.

try wiki, ithink

here: Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story Part II (not sure which part, try all 3 of em)

it was the 90 min episode

but anyhow, good, cos i am starting to feel sorry for ppl who buy dell ... HP OEM build Conroe comps,

i dot think they can OC and with soo many OCing results here , say a 25% OC of any model 24/7stable is reasonable (air cool)

E6600 @ 3 Ghz
E6700 @ 3.325 Ghz

nVidia is doing the same thing with quad SLi. Enthusiasts build their rigs IMO not pay someone loads of cash to do it for them. Heck, I like building my rigs.

Of course to each their own.
