No apparent PCI-E slots so no 3DMark and SuperPi isn't optimized for multiprocessing. :(

But this thing should encode DivX and DVDShrink like a mofo! Rosetta and folding anyone? ;) UT 2007 server? :p:

Tyan unleashes 16-core 'personal' supercomputer (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/06/07/tyan_unveils_typhoon/)

Computex 2006 Taiwan's Tyan today pledged to ship a deskside "personal supercomputer" powered by eight Intel low-voltage 'Woodcrest' Xeon processors and packing up to 48GB of memory in the fourth quarter. But expect to pay at least $10,000 for the wheel-mounted machine, the company said.

The Woodcrest-based Typhoon, the B5372, will be preceded by the B5191, this time based on four 'Conroe' Core 2 Duo CPUs but capable of taking up to 64GB of unbuffered 667MHz DDR 2 connected via an Intel 3000 North Bridge - the B5372 uses the 'Blackford VS' chipset. The Conroe machine is aimed at "cost-conscious" buyers, Tyan said, the other at the more performance hungry.

Looks to me no more than the poor man's version of the IBM blade centre. Would be less funny if it will use InfiniBand to connect the mobos.
Don't put too much hope in DivX encoding, more than two processors doesn't bring miracles.

I suppose you could use it as a table

yea, with some performance tires lol.
its not only faster than our computers in multithreaded apps, but also on the track lol.

Wonder if there will be a quad socket woodcrest/dempsey board in the works...

$10,000 for that machine - is VERY interesting...
I work on HP xw9300...and it costs to my organisation more than 10k$...but there is only 2xOpteron256

More than $10K for a 2x255 machine ? There must be a plenty of SCSI drives there :p:

You would get 15K+ in 06 CPU score lol. That would be so insane, GPU won't matter
