The P4P800s have lousy voltage regulators...waaay under-designed to handle a highly clocked Prescott. I think they used a 3 phase setup...if memory serves correctly. They were barely adequate for a Northwood, and while technically compatible with Prescott, the P4P800 isn't the best choice for this CPU.

You can try attaching heatsinks to the top of the MOSFETs to dissipate some of that heat. But, I wouldn't expect too much more out of them...they're bagged already.

IMHO, your best bet would be to go to a Dothan conversion card...which seems to be the saving grace for these boards...:)

The best for a prescott were the p4c800-e and the ic7 max3. Both when modded were great boards. Likw he said, the p4p800 is really a stripped p4c800 board. It isn't a good overclocking board.

i bought a p4c800 e off ebay it turned out NG , i called asus for an RMA
they were willing to RMA it but the board is discontinued so the offered me a p4p800 e in place of it

as far as my revision goes i have a C0,
this is the only chip i have a problem with.
my air cooled 2.8 northwood HT i hit 3.6 NP on stock voltage same board
my 2.4c i hit 3.3 with a little tweaking
my 3.06 hit 4.1 with a slight raise in voltage all on same board. i guess i might have to get an abit board

They changed your P4C for a P4P ? you got ripped off by few $$.
The P4C board was about $50 more at that time.

The C0 isn't doing you any favors either, unfortunately. But, I had a Socket 478 Prescott 3.0 E0 stepping that couldn't clock much better (3700MHz on a good day).

Stick with Intel mate

Still go ahead and stick some green away but use it on Conroe at least.
