Need a Fraps Like Program for WinXP Desktop...?

I cant think of what to put in for a search on google, or what to look for, but I need a Program that can record like Fraps (preferably free), but record The Windows Desktop or Non Game Programs, as Fraps won't let me do either, only works on games...

reason is, I want to send some vid clips of My Desktop using GTRipple to some friends to show them what I'm talking about... as well as some clips of other programs...

with the other programs, taking screen shots is fine, but with GTRipple since it animates Wave patterns on the Desktop its kind of hard to show the effect in still screenshots...

any ideas on what I should be looking for or where?
