What do you think? Is the FX as good or bad as people say?
Was planning to buy it, but got cold feet when the recent, hoax-rumours started. Anybody knows anything about it? Will the inability to use all 8 pipes matter enough to keep the Radeon 9700Pro on the throne? Seems to be hard to solve with updated drivers. :)
Will it be hold itĀ“s own for a while? IĀ“m not believing that I could buy a card that lasts forever, but it seems a waste of money if it canĀ“t hold its own against the Radeon cards even at its release.
I was planning on liquid cooling it, so I didnĀ“t mind the infamous hairdryer fan, but has it any potential of OCĀ“ing at all?
Combined the rumours of GPU throttling and the absence of 8 fully working pipes makes me very sceptical to it. Has it any future?

Not worth the money.... Barely 5% faster than the R9700Pro.... No point.

I don't know, 9500 is a pretty good value card for now...

I'd probably wait for R350 :slobber:

The sad thing is, you'll get better performance out of an overclocked Radeon than an overclocked GFFX in most cases. HardOCP got like 30-40 out of theres, but you know how that goes, it was probally half that (LOL sorry i cant stop crackin on those guys)

denstore,

Dont know if you've read these yet but here are some articles on the card which'll help you make up your mind:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1749
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1779
http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030127/index.html
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/gffx-ref-p1.html

John Carmack (Id's lead programmer guy who done all quake games and doom 3) has said the performance of the gffx over the 9700pro is minimal in doom 3

I think I will sit this one out. My GF4 4200 isnĀ“t that bad and I get around 13000p in the old 3DMark with it. Only about 1700 in the new though. I had my hopes up on the GFFX, but will probably wait for either R350 or NV35.

R350 is worth waiting for, also, i think you read my other thread and i was told that all the radeon cards 9500, 9700, 9700pro will be coming dowqn in price after release of R350

Dunno about 'hoax rumors', but the whole 8-pipeline thing is basically just the easiest explanation for it's performance, the explanation being that there aren't 8 pipelines at all, so it doesn't have an inability to use all 8 pipes. Personally, I think the word on the street is right, it's 4x2 instead of 8x1. Overclocking on the FX isn't all that great, especially compared to the 9700, and it's much more expensive. I'm sure you're also aware of the fact that it's performance is basically neck-and-neck with the 9700Pro in most stuff.

My Recommendation: Wait for r350, then buy a middle-end one of those, or a 9700. Or, buy a 9500 now and mod it. Might be worth waiting for nv35, but certainly don't go with nv30.

wait till mid march when the prices go down on r300, unless you can afford the r350

Will the FX will ever be available on the market? I doubt it, nvidia has some trouble building it and it's now focusing on the next gen of card. TMSC has some issue producing chips using the 0.15 and 0.13Āµm process (nvidia is one of it's major client)
I would wait for the r350 to come out and then buy the radeon 9700pro when the price will drop

Ive started to see the FX cards for sale, from Ā£329 upwards. The Ā£329 was Sparkle and was a lower spec, most of the ones that ive seen are Ā£350 ish. Im not bothering saving up for an FX, getting 9700 which I will order this week.

i remember when the gf3 came out, my step dad rushed out and paid Ā£400 for it!

Ā£350 can get a lot these days 9as long as you arent buying a new graphics card ;))
