My toshiba Satellite M45 which is a 1.73ghz Centrino with 1gb PC3200 came with a 100gb hard drive which was nice for its size but was only 4200rpm. The notebook was my first so i really didn't think the drive was that huge of a bottleneck. I just figured it was just how notebooks were.

Well... after installing a brand new 7200rpm Hitachi 8mb cache travelstar 80gb drive... this thing FLYS!!! Photoshop CS2 boots in 5 seconds, windows takes about 4x faster to boot. Everything just hauls butt. Over time my notebook began to collect dust since most of the time i'd be on my desktop rig which is a pretty fast rig. But now that the notebook has had such a nice upgrade in speed, i'm going to use it a lot more now.

Long story short.... you guys with 4200rpm notebooks, i highly suggest looking into a 7200rpm drive. It will be like getting a whole new notebook!
