IDE? SATA? wtf?

hey guys, i need some more storage for my comp (300gig+) and i was wondering what these two things meant, and would one maybe not work for me, and if it wasnt compatable, how could i check...

also, could you recommend some?

If you have SATA slots then you can have a SATA drive. If you don't then you can't.

I haven't left IDE for storage yet and probably won't for a while. SATA simply is much faster and has better bandwidth.

edit: what about the 'Interface' ? some have ATA-133, and other ATA-100... whats the difference, and might one not work for me?

if you told us what motherboard you had we could help you alot more ;). But I think they are backwards compatible-so go for an ATA-133 and even if you mobo supports only ata100 which I doubt it most likely would work just at a slower speed.

If your board is MSI 845GE Max (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=365) series, then what you need is IDE ATA 66/100 hard drive. It does not support SATA.
