Hi, I'm new at this forums, I look forward to having a great time discussing with you guys. I'm not a native speaker (I'm from Chile ^^) so please excuse me if you have any problems trying to understand me, I'll just try to do my best.

Well, I would like to make you a question... I'm going to buy a new cooler at sidewindercomputers.com, but I don't now which one to choose.

Should I buy Thermalright's SLK-800 or Swiftech's MCX462+??? please leave the money issue aside, I just want the best one of both.

And one last question... is there any big difference between the SLK-800 and SLK-800A in cooling capability??? (you know what I mean ^^).

I have an ASUS A7V8X mobo and it has the holes for mounting the MCX462+ so it's not a problem... the only thing that concerns me is if any of the two coolers will fit without a problem in my case... you can see it here (http://rodkorn.netfirms.com)

well, that's all, thanx.

bye!

the performance of both is very close, i'd probably buy the MCX462+ because it uses the mounting holes. then again, you may want to check out the SLK900.

Thanx for your reply, I have 3 more questions:

1.- what are the advantages of using the mounting holes? is it possible that slk-800 "falls"? you know, I mean that maybe it's too heavy for using the clip...

2.- what's the difference between SLK-800 and SLK-800A?

3.- will both (mcx and slk) fit in my case??? I already put the link in the first post....

anyway, I would buy SLK-900 if I could buy it at sidewindercomputers, but the don't have it in stock yet...

thanx, bye!

Mounting holes lets you apply more pressure to the CPU, and has lesser risk of the heatsink falling off. SLK-800A has little inserts to give the heatsink more stability, so it is harder to bend it than the SLK-800 (at least I think that's the difference). Both heatsinks will fit in your case no problem, the SLK-900 is slightly superior to the SLK-800, which is slightly superior to the MCX-462+.

The SLK-800A only has some cosmetic improvements, and some stuff to make shipping easier (rolled edges of fins so they don't bend etc). There's virtually no difference in performance or looks.

I'd get an SLK-800 because its cheaper and performs just as good.

IMO neither!
Alpha PAL8045 ischeeper and cools almost identically to both.

gobbo, the SLK800 and MCX462+ better, but not by a whole lot.

i love my PAL8045 too. :)
