im not sure which to get. for the sound card ill be getting the x-plosion and i will be using an optical cable, so if i were to get actual computer speakers then i would get the z5500's. but i would also like to use my speakers for my tv,xbox, and radio, therefore im thinking of getting a new audio system. currently im using a receiver with 2 speakers, which is at least 25 years old...

so any suggestions on audio systems to get at a reasonable price, 400$ max.
or any comments on which type of speakers i should get (comp speakers vs home audio).

You can't get a good speaker system for $400. Especially if you need a new receiver and all.

Good question. You can use the 3 seperate inputs but then you wouldn't get the suround that you are probably looking for.

You really need to go with a quality home stereo surround receiver if you want to hook all of those goodies up and be able to retain all of the quality on each different device. Be prepared to spend a good $800 to get yourself outfitted in that matter including speakers, cables, etc.

Frag would know about the Z-5500. He wrote a nice review about it over at OC3D. Convinced me to buy one soon.

well im torn between the two. there is no way i can afford 800$ just for audio.. i dont need high end stuff so is there anything more midranged?

$800 is very low end. High end can be over $150,000. Mid-ranged would be 5-10k. 2k-4k is med-low end.

just get 5500 for your convenience.. comes with everything for plug & play.. and only $200ish.. no pressure there:)
Forget high end stuff.. if you get into it.. you might some day spend 10k on just speaker wires.

 $5k+ is "mid-range" audio? I think you're going a bit beyond the scope of what we're talking about here.

I'm not talking about pre-assembled home theater kits. They are all usually pretty low end and over priced, with few exceptions.

Get the Onkyo S-780's.
They will be good for home theatre and computer stuff.

It completely depends on what you're gonna be doing or using them for.

If you do a lot of gaming and want the surround sound for FPS and Driving games etc then go with the z5500's...if you listen to more music and video then go with the HT setup.

Just my .02c
