Can anyone offer me tips for building a custom case? I need tips like what exact sizes to make drive bays ext (height depth and width) but ANY info you have whether you think it is obvious or not would be helpful.

This is very late, but I have to wonder... Why don't you just measure the case you currently have? That will give you the basics for mobo mounting, drive mounting, etc.

maybe (since i take it this is you're first tiem doing a case mod to the extrme)
you should just buy a cheap but good potential case...and mod the living crap out of it...
then later on u can build from ground up

Here are a few good tips:

1) It's a good idea to have a 120mm fan next to the videocard(s), so if the case you're modding doesn't already have a fan hole there, I'd recommend adding one.

2) Add blowholes. They look cool and help to lower case temps. Most people like to have a 120mm blowhole but I have to 80mm's next to each other. Here's a picture of my case:

3) When you're painting the case, I'd recommend at least 3 layers of primer and at least 5 layers of paint. You want to make sure that you don't have to repaint the case every few months.

Good luck
