Nothing makes a Dell faster than reformatting and installing updated drivers.

 not on a dell :nono:

since its a laptop, you MIGHT be able to get away with clockgen... maybe

I messed around oc'ing my notebook and locked it up.:( There is no cc on a notebook. Ended up hooking the hdd to my pc and formatting it with a new windows install. Never tried it again.:nono:

lol, never oc' a notebook.

cpu or gpu, it puts more strain on battery, psu and the cooling, i overloaded the cooling setup on a m60 with an x600 that i decided to clock hard.
It would be at constant full pelt and the fan would eventually do 'a delta' and go into '******-hell-thats-loud' mode.

For starters, get that t2500 out and get a merom in there :D

A quicker route is to run a program called the Dell De-crapifier (no joke). Goes through and removes most of the extra crap installed on a DHELL and takes far less time.

Nice program. I would still rather reformat with a slipstreamed version of windows with every update and driver I want to be installed.

uh, you cant get like 3ghz out of it... i can get my 1.5 celeron m to 2.14/15 and it runs fine. there are higher pentium m chips so he will be fine.

Nice program. I would still rather reformat with a slipstreamed version of windows with every update and driver I want to be installed. Most Dells come with a re-install with the clean OS and SP2 in it. Then they give you a driver CD:)

i have the same model only a little less inside :) Dothan 760 and 1Gb Ram 6800ultra and a 5400rpm HD

yours looks like a monster.

I upgraded mine to a Go7800GTX, now it's a real game machine.
btw, that memtweakerstuff works on your dell :)

thanks for the tips guys.. i will probably reformat it if it comes with the windows disk, and then spend the hours optimizing it and disabling processes.. just like i had to do with the desktop :p:

If you didn't order the re-installation disk you won't get one, System Restore only. And reformatting would be a waste of time anyway because the re-installation disk will rebuild the OS/Applications exactly like they are when you recieve the laptop ;)

If you ordered the OS disk, its clean. No extra crap. Then they provide all software disks and a driver cd. I just got my XPS M170 a month or so ago and thats how mine came.

er.....what?
where did i mention 3ghz?

besides, you dont buy a laptop to then shorten the battery life and strain the cooling/chassis design by overclocking, its just retarded. :slap:

Hi there :).

Just my 2 cents.

Definitely wipe and do fresh install. Update, activate, install all your favorite apps and what not and then image it. If you ever fux0r up your system you have a nice base to go back to and not have to wipe, reinstall, update, activate etc.

Ok maybe that wasn't worth 2 cents :(.

And if they give you a MCE2005 disk that will let you install on that laptop(No tv tuner) then make copies of that bad boy! j/k

Didnt know Dell was putting MCE on laptops... It come with a USB tuner?

If you can do a Merom upgrade in august sept would be an easy way to get at least a nice 20% performance.

you said 'the hell out of it' im thinking 3ghz is a really high OC. thats all. i picked up a 1505 too, and id like to upgrade the video. it has integrated graphics, anyway to get a 7800gt or something?

I got an E1705 T2400 1GB 533DDR2 and the 7900GS. Thing is smokin fast, and I use this app called I8Kfangui that lets you set fan speeds and stuff. Also I use NHC (notebook Hardware Control) to lower my voltage so its cooler and I get better battery life. My voltage dropped from 1.267V @ 1.83ghz all the way down to 1.05V!!!! Dual prime stable too! Temps with fan on low are in the high 20'sC and low 30's after gaming for an hour. Now if we could just use clockgen to get another couple hundred mhz and undervoit, we would be set!
