Looks like a really thick gummy TIM.
Thats useful for mobilies, where shocking movements could cause CPU core chipping.

Well, no doubt its too much, but guy's, the AS3 / AS5 days are over... - With AC (Ceramiqie) if you put too much on, no matter, it'll just be squished out on the PCB, and the stuff aint electric, so no chance of hurtin' HW... Did you see how much Hipro5 used on his x1900XTX??? - It was BAD WEATHER IN TIBET amounts :p:

hirpro5 used that much because he was using exterme cooling. That much was applied to displace the air around gpu to prevent condensation. when using cooling that is above ambient temps, he would not have used that much.

I am aware of that, but, it will give you just as good contact as using the right amount...

There's an easy way to fix this situation... Tear down your MacBook before even booting up the first time, wipe all of that shiz out and re-apply with a nice thin layer of AS5 or Ceramique :)

hopefully apple doesnt whine about the thermal insulation feature the end user removed when it comes to the warrenty :D

I just stripped my MBP to the case and cleared out the DQ sundae of crappy TIC and reapplied a nice little dot of AS5 to each chip... The results aren't as drastic as i thought they may have been, but the temps are DEFINATELY better. Before the reapplication the temp sensors were reading in the high 90's up to 100 under full load *eeeeek*.
After reapplication (and mind you the AS5 hasnt cured yet) the temps stay in the high 70's to low 80's. A decent drop but it's still pretty darn toasty. Taking apart the lappy was a fun project though. I photo documented the whole experience, I'll try and upload the photo's tomorrow some time!
