View Full Version : Dying for new Macbook, but waiting for Merom!

Maaan this is killing me. Im really sooooo close to buying one of these new black macbooks. Ive patiently waiting for the perfect mac for me to come out of the closet for and these are almost it. Im a PC user but just recently have been loving using OSX on the quadG5s we have at school (Film student) and I want to own one now. Im really into tech and have been reading nonstop about conroe, merom and woodcrest for the past year and half. With them shipping this august, I wonder if apple will have first dibs like they did with Yonah in Jan.

And hoping over to the Intel and OC boards in this forum doesnt help either! Merom looks like a beast, even when not OCed and so its really hard for me to justify buying this sweet looking new laptop when I know the monstor known as merom will be out in 3 months.

I also have a feeling that Apple will finally be going "all-out" with conroe/woody/merom and redesigning their products and updating them to truly reflect the Intel switch rather than just dumping the new CPUs into an old design.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? I NEED A PORTABLE WORKSTATION TO DO PHOTOSHOP AND ILLUSTRATOR AND FINAL CUT ON :((

Well if you need one, then buy one. But if I were you I would just try to do all your work on ur P4 until Intels launch. Patients is a virtue :)

Get one if you need one, then get a Merom later (who knows how long they'll take to adopt Merom, btw).

Oh the burden of knowledge.....if you didn't know Merom was so close, you'd already have one in your lap :p:

Final Cut Studio is not supported on MacBook. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303782) Also, Adobe CS is currently not Universal, meaning it will run slower through Rosetta. Unless you're running Final Cut Express, the MacBook is going to stink as a portable workstation for you ;) If you decide to get one, however, check out my MacBook resource site here:

Too bad the CPUs are soldered to the board in the MacBooks. Otherwise you could get one now and drop in Merom later.

Are they really? Do you have a link? This is the first I've heard about whether the processor is socketed or soldered.

Oh shoot, I was wondering about the soldered or socketed CPU myself. But that is for a Pro version, I wonder if its the same for the new Macbooks...

Man this laptop just became incredibly unattractive after reading all this...I read somewhere that adobe would just be releasing the next version of Photoshop, CS3?, natively for IntelMacs rather than porting over their current software. Hope its soon! When does the next version of OSX come out?

My friend's brother's mac uses CS2 fine.
