Hello all,

I was wondering if I should regas my stock Mach II, thats about 2.5 years old. I know it currently is running 134a and was thinking about having chilly1 regas it with 404a or 402a and possibly throw on a new evap head to get colder temps. I want to try pushing my Opty 148 and 170 harder...

What do you phase-change wizards think? Will the new gas and head get me much cooler? Or should I just get it regased? Is it worth the hastle?

Mind you this is my 24/7 play/gaming rig, so I need longevity and dependability.

Thanks for your opinions :)

The stock evap is really not good, by regassing it to r402 and addig a chilly1/Kayl evap you would certainly see n very big increase in performance, it would be a top notch machine, colder than anything you can buy in a retail store.

Personally i would wait until chilly1 gets done with his current orders before sending the unit out there, but once he is done then is would certainly be a good performance improvment.

You can always send it to someone else thats not so busy and still do great work, maybe Jinu117....

Simple question so I will answer simply :)
1) Does it hold load of your cpu? does it work as is now? Might be worth keeping it that way until you really need it for more capacity and temp.
2) Mods don't come cheap as it isn't much different from building a new unit in your description of work involved. Only thing that really remains is...case, compressor, condenser. So cost do get decently large where you start wondering if you want it modded or sell it and get brand new phase change unit. Either way comes about same in end from what I see in cost. here is one thing I would go by though - if you have lian-li kit... well mod is better thanks to it's look. lcd controller... tend to be expensive on custom unit so keep it if you have it.
To be honest... regassing with r404a if there is local builder is best performance/price bang. Once shipping gets involved though... everything is what you want vs what you want to spend really.
Hope this helps you.

Change the compressor, evap, condenser and the fan on it, then regas with 402a. Oh wait you just made a new unit :D

Make a new unit. It will cost you alot either way and this way atleast you will get one hell of a preformance boost.

It does hold the load of my cpu, currently my Opty 170 @ 3050Mhz 1.56v, but this thing is the hottest cpu I have ever owned. I guess I just want to push the envelope more...

Do you guys know anyone who can regas this Mach II and lives in the mid-west USA or close to me? I am in Northern, KY, just south of Cincinnati, OH. Who else in the US builds custom units, do you jinu117?

I do get a FedEx discount on shipping. :)

Thanks

The stock MachII compressor is the Danfoss NL11F, so no need to change that. IMO, you'd be better off selling the unit and having a new one built. You'll probably break even or spend a little bit extra, but get a huge performance boost at the same time. Also, Chilly1 right now isn't taking orders, so maybe Jinu or pc ice can help you out.

I am in s. cal and yes I do repair and mods as well as my v2000 custom units. Your compressor being us model is nf9fx which I dearly love and use for most of my creations. Quiet, powerful and very reliable.
PM me on detail of what you want to get done with the unit.

call up a local repair shop and ask how much to put in a high/low side service port and connect 2 likes and regas. Chilly1/Kyle are both $220 for evaps so add that and see if the price is worth it. Just my :2cents:

Thanks for the posts... I just want to make sure I am having the work done by someone with some experience in these types of units. I guess I am being extra cautious.

Jinu117 you have PM. :)
