For good vacuum pumps, how much should you expect to pay for a 3cfm or how much per cfm.
X cfm = $ dollars

you're better off buying a 6cfm pump, the price difference between a 1.3/2/3/4cfm etc. to a 6cfm pump is negligible because the 6cfm pumps are manufactured in a much higher volume. Might as well pick up a six for the extra couple of bucks, way better value, if you're buying new anyway.

Not really new, but ebay.
They're expensive, I believe a good one is a couple hundred. Although, I can't really say how much exactly.

Try hitting up the local auto repair places in your area. I found a brand new Robinair model 15234 for $50. They had 2 of them sitting there and had no use for them since they started using reclaiming equipment. A couple of other shops had some great deals on used ones as well.

flebay is a good place if you can keep the snipes out on the last 30 sec of the auction. Missed a 3cfm by $.50 :( GL

I spent over a year searching for good deals on ebay, and now i ended up with 2 J/b 5CFM's at the same time. They are high quality 2 stage pumps that i got a pretty good deal on... let me know what you think.
Edit - after searching for a long time i found which search words are better, vacuum pump doesnt really get much, i had best results with HVAC pump. Good luck!

Nonono, he is using the vacuum pump, the auto comapny is using the reclaiming stuff...
usually on automotive systems they dont really get good vacuum's... alot of shops use those air powered vac's. I dont really see the air powered vacuum pulling more then 10 microns though...
FYI my family owns a service garage and we definetly use robinair pumps and get a good vacuum. It's too bad i can't use any of our equipment because this phase stuff would be alot cheaper for a college student like me if i could just borrow a manifold and a pump for a day heh. but alas here i am buying my crap paycheck to paycheck :p: enough :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing by me...
I did a search for ya NOL...

not many deals out there right now... it helps if you are looking 2-3 times a week.

oh by the way, i forgot to answer your original question NOL...
The price usually depends solely on the condition and brand of the pump...
Good brands like J/B, Yellow jacket and robinair usually go down like this on ebay:
Like new 2-3cfm: ~$140
Used(minor wear) 2-3:~ 100
Used(Major Wear) 2-3: $50-70
Like new 4-5cfm: $150-200
Used(minor wear): ~$130
Used(Major Wear): $70-100
Like new 6-7cfm: $200-250+
Used(Minor wear): ~$150
Used(Major Wear): ~$125
Hope that helps!

why cant you use the vacuum pump? air pumps don't pull deep vacuums ,if fact they barly pull any vacuum, just enough to remove some air. but none of the system operates below freezing point of water, most of the time thats why they get away with it.But its not doing a good job.

i dont take things from our shop simply because my dad doesnt let me ;), now that i think about it, ive never asked, because i know what the answer would be.
My dad thinks all of my experiments with computers and cooling are pretty silly and childish, and a waste of time/money (which they are, but that is besides the point :p: ) I think part of the problem is i live with my mother so he never see's what im actually doing and he thinks im still playing with lego's and such...
but i have so much fun doing this stuff and i'm learning tons of cool stuff, so i see it as paying for education. As long as i still have money to take my girl out to dinner i am happy  ;)
like i said, many auto shops use those little crap air boxes - but not us. We really do a good job for our customers on everything we do.

Like Revv23 said, I'm using the vacuum pump ;)
I worked as a tech in a General Motors dealership for 7 years and the reclaim equipment they use does pull a good vacuum. Mabey "reclaim equipment" is not a good name for it, it's actually a "charging system" and has a very good built in vacuum pump. These charging stations have a system built in that will shut the unit down if the gas is not pure, dry, etc., it's not one of those cheap reclaim machines you see on Egay.

Rev get yourself a good book and in a few years you will be teaching you dad about phase change. There a lot to learn thats not even discussed in forums.

Not bad NoL... I see them in local hvac store often enough so they must be okay at least :)
Wonder if you could have fetched it at little cheaper price though as with shipping, it really isn't cheap compared to store pricing.

Problem is I dont have a single store anywhere near me. :(
So if its store price, thats fine with me.
