well the best air cooling will get you better temp than any kit except those from aseteck, innovatek, danger den, swiftech. Plus their much cheaper, water cooling can get you a better o/c but i dont think that much compared to the best air cooling. If you have money to spend then go wc if you dont buy a tuniq tower 120, if you go wc dont buy any kits from thermaltake kingwin etc. Buy parts or get a good kit made from quality parts. i was just on the same road but decided to go with the best air cooling.

Good kits from Asetek, Danger Den and swiftech will beat the hell out of all aircoolers. Even the best Innovatek kit should do the same.

If you want to spend $225+ then watercooling can be worth it. Anything cheaper and you are better of with good aircooling.

Just to give you an fyi My first watercooling system ran me a little under 300 and my current system was closer to 450 when all was said and done.

I didnt do it for the Cost benifit, i did it more for ocing and experimentation. FOR most people, air is more than good enough, you get all the cooling you need with out the dangers that are normal territory for WC.

If you are open to getting used parts off of forums, you can go cheaper than $200. I got an
MCW6002-64 - $35,
BIP2 - $25,
AQX 50z - $50,
12ft 7/16" Masterkleer - $9
2 Yate Loons - $14
Worm clamps, t-line - ~$5-$10

$145 total

On the same processor, I had run a Big Typhoon and was able to get my CPU to just over 2.6GHz stable... and got no increase on water myself, despite having spent almost $400 on WC parts (which dropped temps from 34 idle to about 28 idle, 30-31 load... with air cooling in winter at lower ambient, say around 17-18 degrees, and water cooling in summer with 20-21). So yeah, it's not always a guarantee of a higher overclock... but the potential is there. Keep in mind though that I'm running a loop with a tripple radiator and only CPU load with no 90 degree bends... and that the Big Typhoon isn't even the best air cooler out there, and I only got about an 8 degree drop in temps on average (but then, I also had very good airflow with my BT). Newer air coolers like the Tuniq could probably cut that number in half, and for less than a hundred dollars each.

Well, I considered rather than getting new aircoolers over and over again, I might as well go for a waterloop. Cost some 400usd, but its a great kit and I do not regret getting it over air coolers. There's simply something about having a NOISELESS computer apart from the PSU and drives :)

Of course a lot of your chips OCing potential is in the chip it's self. If you didnt get the god one of the bunch you may not ba able to get any higher on water than on air.

if you want silence then some of the 1/4" systems will drop you too damn near silent, or you could go passive cooled water and be completly silent. Passive is however not a good option if your ocing your chip. All though most people can get away wth running two fans at 5 or 7 volts on a good rad, which is near silent.

I do not recommend any kit, it is much better to use custom parts

Here you go, custom water cooling, cpu head MCW6000 by swiftech, double 120mm radiator (fans @ 5V are silent) and average pump. Same 5C difference was on opteron 146 @ 3Ghz 1.6V

The advantages of watercooling is that you can get a better OC and your system will run faster. If air cooling brings the cpu the same OC like watercooling and the temps is in recommended limit, then moving to Watercooling is a waste of time... whats the difference if cpu temps with WC is like 40C and air temps are 50C? If the CPU is running the same clocks?NOTHING
