View Full Version : Writing a bios
I wanna know how a newbie start to learn about writing a bios. Not using a bios editor but really writing a bios starting from zero. Any websites teach about that? Thanks

*Disaster Incoming* and afaik I know the only people that can “write the bios” are the manufactures, just use the editor.
Yeah, writing a BIOS from scratch would take you ages and you will most likelly set incorrect variables.
Just use a BIOS editor and edit up the menu options etc - much more worth while IMO :)
Were can i find a BIOS editor?
I have a A8N-SLI Premium and it only gives 1.55 Vcore and i wont 1.6.
Is it possible to edit/mod the BIOS for more Vcore?

Is it possible to edit/mod the BIOS for more Vcore?Only if 1.6 is already in the bios, just hidden. More than likely this is a physical limit of the board and would require a hard mod to the Vcore circuit.
You can't just create a bios for a motherboard, you need to be the manufacturer for that.
Seriously. I wouldn't consider writing a BIOS all by yourself, it takes a dedicated team some time just to get an early roughly working pre-release version. You by yourself? it'll take years lol.

I know i can't just write a new BIOS LOL. Just mod the std. BIOS.
But yeah i think it may be a physical limit.

In order to write a BIOS, you would have to have acess to very expensive equipment as well as be amazingly good at whatever programming language they use to write BIOS (something like Assemly or some other hardware-level language). In short, you can't do it.
FFS! Zardokk, we know that, just asking how to edit/mod it for more vCoer or if i have to meke a hardmod

I didn't even know that BIOS editors existed.
Are there any good ones for the D845GVSR motherboard?

hi emo,
Writing a BIOS is not impossible. But, there are a lot of things that you have to know in advance even before writing the very first code.
These are some prerequisite that I know (I've written my own patch and integrate it to the system BIOS for some years now) :
1. You have to be proficient in programming especially Assembly language.
2. You must be able to understand the datasheet.
3. You must obtain the relevant datasheet, i.e. chipset datasheets. This is one of the most frustrating thing, coz it's very hard for up-to-date chipsets, the chipset makers wouldn't give you all you need. You're lucky though if the chipset is made by Intel coz they provide a public version of the datasheet in their website.
To get started, you might want to Reverse Engineer a working BIOS first:
Pinczakko's Guide to Award BIOS Reverse Engineering (http://www.geocities.com/mamanzip/Articles/Award_Bios_RE/Award_Bios_RE_guide.html)
and then try to understand the open source BIOS code:
Linux BIOS (http://www.linuxbios.org/index.php/Main_Page)
Linux BIOS is a mixed language source code (C and Assembler)
Probably, it will take you a few years with no experience in Programming to get into the level of understanding the source code.
goodluck,
Pinczakko
