The fan used was an old Nidec Beta SL 90mm fan running at 12 volts

man u must have been bored. lol

I wanna try a similar stupid trick with my case, U2-UFO.
I wonder if I put high quality / low friction casters on it, if it can push ITSELF accross the floor.

That would be hilarious at a LAN.

it's strange, it's a great fan, running at 5v it's dead silent but still moves a lot of air

While on topic..

The topic of the thread is obviously fans that can push stuff...

That is one sick fan!! I have a Sunon 120x38MM that can push itself too, but not nearly as fast. That thing would work wonders on an XP-90/XP-90C.

I can't use lego wheels, they would break under the weight of the damn thing :( . Still trying to find something strong enough with wheels.

skateboard maybe? probably not great for low friction

ah think the crazy fan on my xp-90c is a Nidec. I scrapped it from the a Dell and took off the thermistor and the thing is sooooo powerful. I dunno what it is but there's some really smooth (and dam powerful!!! even at really slow speeds its cut up my skin) bearings inside it so its quiet even when pushing lots of air.

When i hold it running at 12v and wiggle it slightly it starts pushing my hand back, crazy..

edit: these are them..

[XC] MarioMaster

lol i needed more wire, that's why the second video is so short, i only had a few feet of wire and as soon as it ran out the car fell over

Have you seen my little orange case fan? I think it would beat the delta:D , look at my previous posts.

I bought 25 Deltas for a project but they turned out to be not the type of fan I needed. They glide in same way as in that video you posted, but a bit slower.

I'm tempted to make a fan powered wagon :D
Or Hover Craft :)

i wish it could make it float, but it's not that powerful. the fan kart race might be a good theme for a competition (hint hint)

I'll see your Nidec, and raise you a 172x150mm 24v Papst...

Won't float as it has a cast ally frame, but 235CFM says it's pretty naughty...

Currently debating on a 12v Rotron... 300CFM:D

Airflow means nothing to me now, http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=96582
1,888CFM 240V :D still want to talk about airflow?

[XC] MarioMaster
05-23-2006, 06:32 AM
umm, i think there will need to be different classes if this actually becomes a competition.... say 12v 24v 120/240 line v and a whatever category

hixie
05-23-2006, 11:05 AM
If i can find a skateboard i will definatly participate.
BTW, i sold my 10" and going to get myself a 15" one :D i got used to ONLY 1,888CFM of air-flow :p:

Maybe i'll post something in the competition section and see how many people are interested/bored enough to participate.
