An RSIR motor? What is that? What does it stand for?

I belive that is a Split-phase motor

Resistance Start Induction Run
Hmmm Okay found that after finally searching google with R S I R motor with spaces between letters.
Okay so what exactly does that mean?

All compressors are induction, this means there are no windings on the armature and there are no brushes.

resistance start is the simplest starting method, current passes thru both start and run windings but since the "resistance" is different it offsets the magnetic feilds so the motor can start to turn.It splits the one phase into two with one being delayed by the higher resistance.

So does that mean it requires not start or run capacitor? What about relay?

I found this on another board: compressor explanation and wiring (http://teampuss.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=743)

@mods - if i am breaking rules/guidlines for posting another forum delete this pls

just a relay to disengage the start windings.

Wdrzal okay thanks for the answer, now where can I find a place that sells relays? I have like 5 types of relays I need to byu and no where to do it.

yaa it use a relay in place of cap.

the relais doesn't replace the capacitor :) a hermetiq compressor used mostly start RELAYS

capacitors are used with phase-change that has a big compression ratio. like subzero fridge's to have more power while startup.

rsir is mostly a PTC resistor in series with the run winding. THe run winding draws the most amperage because it has the lowest resistance. so the PTC heats up and the resistance rizes.

Now current is looking for the fasters way so it takes the Startwinding. when the compressor starts the amperage true the runwinding lowers and the PTC resistance is back to normal and the runwinding takes over.

thats how a rsir works if i remember my lesson's of 2 years ago.

edit: looks like i remember good

The PTC is supposed to be in series with the start winding. It applies current when first turned on, reducing the current to a very low value when it warms up.

yes seems i mixed up, double checked and your right;)
