Smartgaurdian says my chipset is running a bit hot and I was wondering what is the best solution to cool it down. Here's the specs:

CPU is 39 deg C, Fan speed 4821
PWMIC is 43 deg C, Fan speed 2280
Chipset 53 deg C, Fan speed 7031

Current Voltage:
CPU =1.31V, ATX +12V =11.9V, LDT Bus = 1.16V, NB +1.5V = 1.47V, ATX +5.0V = 5.02V, ATX +3.3V = 3.29V, DRAM = 2.56V, VBAT +3.0V = 3.04V.

Rig:
Athlon X2 3800+
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer
Enermax 550W PS
Sound Audigy 2ZS
Geforce 6600GT
Deskstar 7K250 SATA 250GB

Appreciate the help!

Most common and one of the best things out there is the Vantec Iceberq (NON-Pro edition) VGA cooler. It's *just* tall enough that it doesn't interfere with video cards, and does a pretty effective cooling job. I personally had a bit of trouble mounting mine (holes weren't lined up properly with my DFI SLI-D board), but I seem to be the only one that had that issue (which was solved easily enough by enlarging the holes).

It goes for about $30 CAD, so like $25 US.... fairly cheap for how effective it is.

I use http://jab-tech.com/Evercool-VC-RE-Twinkling-VGA-Cooler-pr-2291.html

53C (load?) isn't too bad. Alternatively, you can just point a fan at the chipset cooler.

I had problems with the Iceberq, idle 48'C load 51'C room 21'C
critix showed me a pic of using passive heatsink and attach a fan over it, it should work better than the tiny stock one.

the chipset fan on my abit board went to crap, the bearings were totally shot and at full rpm it would drive you nuts, i unplugged the fan altogether and pointed a quiet 80mm fan at it and it keeps it nice and cool (only NF2 chipset tho...)

Are you sure you had good contact? Those temps seem really high to me... I don't think I've ever seen mine go over 36'C.

It has a great contact, I had the flat probe placed on the heatsink itself giving me temps, BIOS says it's only 35'C or so, lol

Ah, ok. I accept that. I still say it's the best thing out there for DFI peeps (due to the height restriction)... but yeah, mobo temp probes do suck. Scary to think about how much though.

There's a heatpipe chipset cooler now, for low profile needs, forgot the name, grrr.

I chopped up a celeron stock cooler for my Nf4 chipset. temps are better than the stock cooler and im not using a fan on it. i do plan to put a fan on it at later date, either a 60 or 80mm for better results.

it looks a little bit rough, thats becasue it is.

Yeah, I've seen a few pictures here and there of that but I can't remember the name either. I'm sure it will come to replace the Iceberq as the de facto third party NB cooler in time... but I havn't seen it around enough to say for sure and I havn't seen any testing done with it (though I'm sure it will perform well, it's always best to get proof).

It's the Jing-Ting Force chipset cooler that's sold out everywhere, right? :D

yeah but at that price it's not going to replace the Iceberq.

Zalman vf700 also might be an alternative :)

lolol this is AWESOME
I found a 70mm fan, put it 2 inches in front of the chipset, and now my idle is 42'C when room temp is 22'C

Thanks for the advice all. I read the Jing Ting review and it looks like a good fit for my mother board since I also have an Audigy 2zs, Geforce 6600GT and HDTV Wonder.

Now, does anyone know where I can get one???

Thanks again!

I'd get the Evercool VE-RC from Jab-tech. It's only $10-12 shipped and does the job rather quietly. Heretic linked to it earlier in the thread.

I also use the VC-RE and recommend it. Very cheap, and it has a nice weight to it. It does the job well without being any more obtrusive than stock (I have the same board as you). Mine dropped about 12-14C to put me at around 34C
