Liquid metal tim on phase change?

I've heard its a bad idea to use the coolworks liquid metal thermal compound along with phase change, but those were just speculations. Did anyone actually try it? I would like to get a virtually free 5C drop in cpu temps from my chilly1 single stage... If noone has tried it I may be the first person to do so :eek:

Its liquid at room temperature. You bring those temps down too low and I doubt it will stay liquid, more then likely acting like a bare metal plate over the CPU.

I would contact http://www.coollaboratory.com/ and ask them what range they mean by "room temperature". However with the way its description is written, and lack of an operating zone (AS5 lists theirs), I don't think you will like the answer...

in my experience its c**p. dont waste your money.
its messy, and a complete b***h to use properly.
just my shillings worth.
stick with arctic ceramique.

I am really curious now... I should get some next week. I'll try just spreading it on the head and let the unit get cold and observe what happens to it... If it does solidify, does that necesserily mean its a bad thing? How would that hurt the temp transfer? Going to be really really hard to put a thin layer on too, but like fcg said someone has to try it first.

hmm, i think ceramique is the best way to go, or some sort of white paste, i dont like anything goopy or silver colored...

thats my scientific analysis :)
