As the title states, does anyone know if the Swiftech STORM CPU waterblock support Core Duo or Conroe? Will there be a adapter kit sometime in the near future?

Good question. I'd like to know as well, since I am in the planning stages of building a new system based on the new Intel offerings (Conroe or Merom).
I assumed automatically that it would be compatible straight away since a intelligent motherboard designer would have four holes around the CPU socket, but as I look around, it isn't looking too good.
But for Conroe, let's see, will be socket 775 so it should be possible to mount a Storm waterblock - right??

I hope you are right, I wasn't sure what the Socket for Conroe was. I emailed Swiftech tech support so hopefully they get back to me by tomorrow.

It will definitely work on Conroe and VERY likely on Merom (heck, no reason why it wouldn't).

Thats because Conroe is Socket 775, correct? And Prescott's were Socket 775 and they were supported from the beginning??

Yes...the dimensions of Conroe are the same as Prescott/Presler/Smithfield/Cedar Mill. Merom might have some problems since it's IHS-less, but I think the mounting system for the Storm is nut/bolt/spring for S478, so it should be fine.

it's not a processor support thing, it's all about sockets.
Storm G4 mounts on sockets 478, 775, 603, 604, 462, 754, 939, and 940.
So the only mounting i'm not sure about is the Merom/Yonah 479.
Presence of IHS should be a negligible issue because you can always modify the mounting system. I would probably run a storm like I run my TDX, you run the mounting screws through the backside of the motherboard, run bolts on the front side to get them stuck in place, and them mounting the waterblock is as easy as sliding it down the two mounting screws and tightening it down with butterfly nuts.

So obviously I would use the springs and bolts from the S478 kit because that is compatible with the S775?

No, for Conroe you'd use whatever the instructions tell you to use for 775.
For Merom, you'd use S478's (I think, I mean, the mounting holes should DEFINITELY be the same as S479's, but I'm worried about the lack of IHS if it's not a nuts/bolts/springs type of thing [i.e., a bracket of sorts--which can be modified, but it's just not nearly as flexible as a nuts/bolts/springs setup).
Also, lots of peeps have been running Tuniq Towers on the Merom/Yonah, so the mounting can't be different than SOMETHING that's out there ;)

Thanks for clearing that up for my retarded ass. Socket 775 setup it is. I can't wait to get a Conroe under water!!!

Oh good....it'll work very easily on Merom/Yonah as well then :)

The REAL question is whether or not it will fit AM2. Only the gods know for sure. :p:

Nope, I'm almost positive it won't work on the AM2.

AM2 socket holders dimensions: 95x48 mm
All others - see pic (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33286&stc=1&d=1119994949)
So NO it WON`T fit AM2 boards w/o additional drills in hold-down plate

Not currently but they will be releasing a new mounting bracket (as soon as they specs for it) for 7 dollars + shipping.

Thats one thing about W/Cing blocks, I love the bolt through method which allows you to use on all sockets with a corrent hold down plate. Also Core Duo uses a standard 478 mounting system on the Aopen board anyways.

but you can still drill 4 new holes and use the existing hold-down plate right?

but you can still drill 4 new holes and use the existing hold-down plate right?I don't think so. The holes will be very close to the edges of the plate.
