I made this crude drawing in illustrator, this is what I need:
they are aluminum hex standoffs, similar to the ones that you use to mount a motherboard to the case, except they are female on both sides (actually the center hole goes completely through the middle)

the dimension from one flat side to the other is 4.5mm, and the length is 6mm. I am not sure of the inner diameter but I believe it is 2 or 2.5mm. Whatever the "standard" thread size is for computer cases etc.

Can someone help tell me where I can order these from Mouser or Allied etc? That would be so helpful thanks!! :)

Home depot and Lowes are both good bets, or a clock maker (sometimes). another good place to find out is to call a machine shop in your area and ask them. If they dont cut them them selves they may be able to tell you where they pic them up.

they are the little screw on ends that go on the ends of serial cables, etc so that you can screw the male into the female and lock it in place..... there has to be a place that sells these online. I doubt home depot has these but I will check.

www.mcmaster.com

If they don't carry them, they aren't made anywhere. :)

yep I know about mcmaster-carr but actually according to their website, they don't have these particular standoffs. Seems odd too since these are pretty standard on all computer cables. Anyway, I ordered some from Allied electronics and we'll see if they are the right ones....

There are 2 types of standoffs; make sure to get the right ones!

First, check the holes in your motherboard tray - are they M3 threaded (CD-Rom screw), or 6-32 (Hard Drive Screw). Make sure to order standoffs that are either M3 or 6-32 dependant on which the tray has. Otherwise, they won't fit. Or they will, but with re-taping holes.
