They all say very good board and give it some award. But on forums I hear many people now days saying abit sucks and that they will never buy another Abit board, why is this? Back in the P4C days they were great, what happened? Right now I downgraded a D955XBK to a D945GPT (old board died :() and I cant stand the OC ability of the i945 board...so if the abit is good I will upgrade, good idea?

Yeah I want to know the answer to this as well. I just bought a AW8 and waiting to get a cpu to put it to use. Why the bad name?

Abit was the best for overclocking but they lost interest for a few months there. They are going back at it though now. I really don't know which one is the best but I prefer Asus myself.

eva2000 is reporting problems obtaining high bus speeds (Anything over 240MHz IIRC). Theres is also a hardware problem with the board (according to a reply I have from Abit UK) that stops it POSTing over 170MHz bus speed with a 133MHz bus CPU (a Pentium D 805 in this case). I now have my 805 running at 4GHz (200x20) on an Asus P5LD2 Deluxe. Also their USA tech support SUCKS big time.

Are these overclocking problems widespread or just on a few you have seen?

Actually it could be my 955XE and not the board itself that has a problem.. won't know until i get another cpu to test to confirm it

I bought an Abit AW8 regular for 49 shipped.. So far its ok... It doesnt support 65nm / DC without the newest bios... umm its VERY picky over ram, and especially timings, my rig specs:
Intel 920
OCZ Gold 667 (the non-XTC)
Abit AW8
And I run 4-3-3-8 @ 712, 4-3-3-12 doesnt even work, that fails prime... its realllllly weird. I also had to reformat my hardrive since switching from an ASUS P5P800SE, to an AW8 couldnt boot windows at all, it said it has a corupted file, so i had to load the HD on an asus board, and get everything off of it
Its good once you figure out what it likes, but its hard to setup

Tigerdirect deal is over. Like other's mentioned, its probably a good idea to stick to Asus for 945P and 955X chipset mobos. I currently own both p5ld2(regular) and P5WD2-Premium. Both motherboard are great. I am not an extreme overclocker and both my mobos are running below 300fsb.

Its normal to have to format windows after you switch Motherboards, when the motherboard changes so do all the parts on the system and the old drivers may keep the system from booting into windows. (Had this happen with a couple of my boards). Anyway where in the world did you get a normal AW8 for 49 shipped?
Anyway I changed my mind about buying the normal AW8 or Max, Im looking at the AW8D, this one is said to support conroe (i975) and is much more stable and does good OCs.
