Im going to buy a new notebook for a bit gaming ect., im not too worried about battery life or heat, i just dont want a tank. How would a 2.26ghz Pentium M fair against a 3.4 or 3.6 Pentium 4 ? How about core duo.
Thanks

No, it's:
Duo > Turion > Pentium M > Mobile Athlon 64 > P4
for performance processors.
Dothan is only good at higher clock speeds and FSB speeds.

Pentium M is definitely the right choice here if you aren't going for Yonah.
2.26 Ghz Penium-M is pretty expensive though, if you wanna be a modder and save some money you could get a 1.6 or 1.7 400 mhz bus Pentium-M and pin mod it to 2.13 Ghz or 2.26 Ghz respectively.

Could you clock say a 2ghz up to 2.5? Does the dothans oc the best?

See on a laptop you don't really have overclocking options.
With the Pin mod, you bridge two pins on a Pentium M with 400 Mhz bus speed. If you have the 915 chipset that supports 533 bus speed, it will automatically raise the bus to 533 which overclocks the processor.
SO, configure a laptop with P-M 1.7 Ghz 400 Mhz bus speed, but with the 915 chipset. Do the pin mod and you get 2.26 Ghz. You can't just overclock to 2.5 Ghz because there's no overclocking options, only FSB increase. So if you take a 2.20 Ghz Pentium-M and pin mod it to 2.8 Ghz.... it won't work because you have no voltage increase and 2.8 Ghz on stock volts is pretty unlikely.
Anyway, don't need to do the pin mod, but could save you some money :)

i'm talking about general usefullness, aka performance/watt. not pure performance.
also, turion just a cooler running a64 with slightly reduced clocks. it performs identically, but the top ma64s are clocked a little higher than the top turions.
and yes, pinmodding the p-m really puts it in the front.

You really wanna stay away from Pentium 4 on a laptop.
Pentium M or Core Duo. I would get the Core Duo because Merom the processor after Yonah/ Core Duo will just drop in there.
I have a Pentium M 760 - 2Ghz + X600 and I can play games really smooth. Allthought without AA ofcource. Only older games can I do that.
Whatever your choice just get 1GB minimum in your laptop. :)
Im only suggesting this is a really good deal.

Toshiba p105
*17" Monitor
*GeForce Go 7900 GS
*160gb
*Core duo 1.8ghz
*1024mb DDr 667fsb
*Finger print technology
*Harmon kardon speakers
$1999
For me in the UK purchasing that is so cheap £1000 +- considering what you get. But have a good look around the net first.

P105 looks very nice considering its the only laptop besides the 1710 that has the 7900GS/7900GTX Cores. But what i want to know if what core is the 7900GS using. Its only 20 pipes, unless its a failed GTX core or they lock 1 quad.
