Sorry for the seemingly stupid question.

The last PC i built was 3 years ago 2.4c @3.3ghz and i've been thinking of an upgrade. All these conroe posts got me excited and even though i was gonna switch to AMD it seems conroe is the way to go. Anyway my question is what is merom? Is this something i should consider?

If anyone has a link to a article to school me i'd appreciate it.

TIA!! great site BTW

I would go for Conroe, because there will be more boards availible in the future. Yonah/Merom is more for freaks, it´s to expensive...;)

exactly. plus we don't need a $300 motherboard to get decent overclocks.

Merom is a pretty similar architecture I believe and is really more of a stopgap until Conroe arrives. It's way more expensive than Conroe will be as well as the motherboards. You're much better off waiting a few months until it's released.
