View Full Version : Absolute king of air cooling?

I am thinking about upgrading my cooling, as the warmer weather is now coming in and my temps are rising and my CPU is no longer 100% stable at the same settings it was in the winter. I am looking at the Tuniq Tower and Noctua NH-U 12. Both of them look like they outperform the BigTyphoon/9500/Ninja. But the question: Which one is better? And where would I obtain a Noctua NH-U 12 in the united states?

Performance, I couldn't tell you. But I can answer your second question :)

Noctua at Jab-Tech (http://jab-tech.com/Noctua-NH-U-12-pr-3347.html)

Noctua at Frozen CPU (http://www.frozencpu.com/cpu-noc-01.html)

Damn, the NH-U 12 looks sexy. And big. Up close, it looks better than the tuniq tower. Can anybody confirm this?

Baaa, thiis kind of post we see everyday... :/

nh u 12 looks like a monster. If I wanted a air cooling system, thats my choice. Pair it up with a fresh air fan duct and you have one nice system.

I hear you lol

remember that those tower coolers do not cool down the components around the cpu socket.

i like the design of the tuniq tower better .. putting the fan in the middle .. taking up less space on the sides

It's better just to upgrade to water cooling instead. Those things are gigantic and probably aren't good on the motherboard in the long run. I was thinking about the tuniq tower, but the 6LBs+ really isn't cool.

I have no room for water cooling. I really would like to know which of these cools better. Are there any comparisons?

Where in the heck did you come up with 6 pounds? I'm fairly certain the heaviest "normal" air cooler in existence is the Coolermaster Hyper6, which weighed in at 1kg, or ~2.2 lbs.

Tuniq Tower is definitely *NOT* 6lbs. I got to use one a short while...it was maybe one pound, definitely surprisingly light (but mounting's a biatch).

My bad, it's around 1kg with a fan which is still heavy. It's tall so there's a lot of torque on the MB.

003, check this link: http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/noctua_U9_U12/index3.shtml

I think the Tuniq Tower is slightly better. It's $12 cheaper too, comparing SVC to Jabtech.

Thanks, anybody else have input before I buy the tuniq tower? This is it, right?:

Sonic Tower incase you want to go Passive Cooling, if not add a fan in the middle it will par with Ninja or better

Exactly! I don't think there is any performance difference between these two. You can use $12 to buy AS5 on the other hand.

Can you put an aftermarket fan in the t-tower?

The Tuniq Tower has a 120x120x25 fan which is the standard size for 120mm fans I think.

Seems Tuniq is first and Ninja comes in second.

Which HS can cool down your CPU decently, without bending the motherboard?

The Scythe Ninja is actually very well-balanced even though it's a big mofo. A lot of the weight is in the lower half of the heatsink so it doesn't stress the motherboard excessively.

Besides that, an aluminium Thermalright heatsink would be great. I've used an XP-90 and SI-120, both fairly light, easy to install and cool quite well.

The noctua didn't make it into my roundup, unfortunately, but here's some info about the Tuniq tower and some other high end heatsinks.

link here. (http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=103462)

I might be a little careful, depending on the layout of your motherboard and your video card , the Tuniq Tower might not get enough fresh air intake.

I have a Lian LI PC-65b case and a PCP&C turbo cool 510 express/sli PSU, will the t-tower be ok?
