I need to replace my friend's original Intel cooler with a better one. Is the following copper AVC enough for a Prescott 3Ghz? Or should I tell my friend to spend more money of a even better cooler?

Yep, should do the trick nicely. As long as your not gonna OC hard core.

Might be a little noisey, but it's fine.

I suppose that depends what exactly the purpose of replacing the heat sink is. That AVC one is certainly better than the aluminum Intel stock, but with that said there are much better ones on the market. So if you were just looking to reduce the temps on a system that won't be overclocked to help go for longer life, that's a good option. Otherwise, you might consider something a little beefier.

The standard cheap heat sinks to look for these days are copper and a nice fan on it. The next ones are the pricey huge heat pipe coolers :P
