View Full Version : BH-5 or BH-6 With Booster
Hey
I´ve just bought 2x512 bh-6.
I have a Booster and MSI Neo2 Nforce3 platinium.
Can get some Mushkin PC3500 Level II bh-5 from a friend!
What will give the best result?
BH-5 or BH-6??
At the moment i have ocz ps3200 EL Rev2 TCCD Brainpower.
BH-5 vs BH-6 vs TCCD Brainpower

just try it yourself.

from my understanding there isnt really much difference in them at all, I heard bh-6 needs a touch more volts to get as high but I doubt it..
Good luck and post some results, and remember to cool them babies with the biggest fan you have if your going into volts higher than rated specs :P (im sure you know this already)
Aleman has some blazin -6 so hed know from that point of view :P
I myself have gotten out of that 2-2-2 stuff id prefer lower volt 2 gig kits with decent timings
ddr 500 2.5-3-2-5 is good with me :P and bf2 loves it
How much volt can the Booster give to my Mobo?

well i'd just go for it since (if anyone else hast ried it) i see no limitation, maybe some overvolt resistors on your mobo but there is really only one way 2 try this ;).
Just do it (and its not a Nike Ad hehehhe)
just go for it. 270MHz average is generally 3.6V~3.75V so its not THAT much ;)
Gogogo! :)

The performance difference them is minimal if you ask me..
Sure it takes a little more Voltage but honestly that isn't a big deal if you have a booster or a good voltmod.

Ive killed quite a few sets of bh-5 in my time, but my first ever set of decent ram(mushkin 2-2-2 special bh-6) is still kicking
Havent ran them in well over a year, I wonder what there max is..

I´ve heard that bh-6 is better to take the volt then bh-5??
BH-5 dies more often than bh-6 on high voltage?

well BH-6 is a 166nm process and BH-5 is a 150nm process, so it only makes sense that BH-6 would take Voltage better.. however BH-5 needs less voltage to reach similar Overclocks.
Hence I say the difference is marginal at best
and if you haven't read the legend yet

Now I would personally love to get a set of BH-4 :D
but now you know

It appears Saaya didn't actually update the first post...
In the end, BH-5 and BH-6 are the exact same chip (Winbond W942508BH) built on the exact same process size and cut from the same wafer, they'r just binned to different speeds.
Both chips are 175nm not 150/166nm.

Both chips are 175nm not 150/166nm.Yes, that's true. They are only binned differently.
Winbond BH = 175 nm
Winbond CH = 130 nm
The Neo2 Platinum is certified at 3.4v with the booster.
Okay
The memory is a bit old do i need "Burn" them in?

Memory can certainy get better over time - no harm in trying some stress testing. Active cooling is required!

sum1 called ma name? :D id say go and test 4 urself jus as the others do, and i hav 2 say tcc5 rly like volts :P :D

yup BH-5 and 6 are simply different binned memory, same otherwise, odds are better with bh-5, but BH-6 has the same potential, hipro broke all his records with bh-6 IRRC.

higher chance with BH5s.

Although the certification of the MSI K8N Neo2 Plat motherboard has only been to 3.4v (as previously stated), that only means that either OCZ, or one of their beta testers, has only gone to 3.4v with it, not that the 3.4v is the limit the combo is capable of achieving.
I have personally gone to 3.8v with my MSI and DDR Booster combo without any noticed ill effects. This was not for extended periods however, just for testing purposes, so will have to decide for yourself how long you wish to pump over 3.6v through your sticks.
With respect to your question about BH-6 vs BH-5, they are both capable of high clocks, however, the fact that there is much more BH-5 out there to choose from would lead me to conclude that your chances of getting high clocking sticks, statistically speaking, would be better with BH-5.
