View Full Version : Silencer temps bad?
hey guys, put up my silencer a few weeks ago w/ some as5...temps are relatively the same as teh stock hsf:( idles around 48C and loads at about 68C vs the 50C idle and 71C load from the stock hsf
am i doing anything wrong? first time i put it on (w/ the preapplied paste) i was getting about the same paste and it seemed to be making perfectly fine contact....now w/ this as5, no improvement
could it be an airflow restriction? i have 1 80mm fan, and 1 120mm fan as intake along with 1 120mmf fan exhaust
thanks for any help
bump, anyone have any ideas? come on now :)

Well, no. You bought the silencer for silence, right? Well you didn't mention it, but I'm sure its very quiet. Your temps are almost dead even with MaximumPc's review of the Nvidia Arctic Cooling Silencer. they got 50 idle and 67 load. If you wanted performance, theres a new thread here that lists all the new vga coolers.

The regular Arctic Cooler X1 is the second best there and MaximumPc gave it a 9/Kickass rating. Check it out, or make your own selection from that review.
Edit: Note, the arctic cooler got a 6 from them

I am sure you have a different model them me (7800GT), but after super careful install my idle temps dropped 7-10 degress celcius; so I think it should rock. But different card probably makes this null...good luck!

P.S. I also used AS5, and the stock pads that came with it.

That seems within the range of acceptable temperatures. I have one on a 7800GT, and it idles at 38. What is your room temp and have you tried reseating it?

how about screwing the thing down more.
The Accelero X1 is supposed to be a really good cooler for the same price.

the sad thing about the Accelero X1 it doesn't force the air out of the case.

That is an especially nice feature for those of us using mATX.
