Last week, my Asus P5P800 started to have some trouble to turn on... Every time I switched my computer on, it took like 30 minutes to turn on, and that time increased every time I switched it off...
There was something strange, every time it turned back on, the bios clock time was delayed, but the configurations were OK. I bought a new battery for the BIOS, but the problem got worse from day to day, and now it won't turn on even after three hours of standby. The led on the MOBO indicates power is on and I even tryed switching the PSU - mine is 450W, I switched for a 500W - , but both of that PSU's are good... the mobo is 8 months old...
Any advices? Is this related in any way by the vdrop problem that some people had?
May I start looking for a P5P800-SE?
Thx
Gabriel

Check that USB 2.0 is still enabled and that no HDD is being detected slow or anything. Also try unplugging any unnecessary USB2 devices.

since you have an LGA775 CPU why not change to the PCI-e world?
these 865's have their south bridge fried very easily

I tried to unplug everything, even HDD's and necessary USB devices, like my mouse and keyboard... I just left my radeon 9550 video card and a 512MB memory module.
I would like very much to go towards he PCI-e world, but I can't afford it now.
I'm thinking of some capacitor problem... I'm looking for somebody that is able to fix it, but I'm wondering if the P5P800-SE is a better choice.

The SE is only better if you want to go Dual core... Check out the Asrock board if you can wait. I believe they are producing a 865 board that supports Conroe... :D

I've searched through my known online retailers and didn't find this asrock board... I'll give a last try to my board tomorrow, if I can't make it work, I'll buy a P5P800 SE, it is about US$ 150 here in brazil.
Thx

Oh wait as in wait a month or so. It's not out yet. But if you can live with what you have for another month... Getting a Conroe ready board that works with your parts? that would be way cool...

Yeah, but I'm writing my graduation thesis, so I can't wait for that long, thx for the advice... I'm thinking about a intermediary solution, a ABIT GD8, with DDR1 and PCI-e, so I would begin my transition torwards a 955 or 975 solution. I'm also looking for a inexpensive PCI-e video card, like a X550 or so. Today I'm gona have my board the last try, with a 24 pin ATX power supply (both I used were 20-pin). That's just to close the case. If t does not turn on... I'll see what mobo to buy and he send this board to a technician that can fix this kind of board.
Thx for your patience guys (kyleslater in special)... I'll do my best to contribute to the forum from now on. I liked a lot here.

OH ok. I'm an nvidia fan so I'd rather like a 7300 or something. BTW. a 6100 or 6150 based board might work as it would be cheap and have onboard video (in the 6200 level) which while it is not top rate should be enough to run Vista. And it does have a PCI-E slot should you come by some spare money.

Do you have any suggestions for this 6100-based board?

I just found 6100/6150 boards for AMD... is there any version for intel?

Turned out to be a PSU-related problem... Tested it with a 700W 24-pin PSU and it came back to life! goodbye 20-pin psu's!! My mobo is alive and kickin'!

You got the Powerstream 700? I was looking at that...

No, I bought one from a nacional brand, but it can handle even A64's X2 with lots of things attached... I bought it because at work we bought some A64's X2 4800+ with GF7900GTX's using SLI and this PSU, so I think it can handle my computer without any problem... THe PSU name is Leadership Gamer 700 ( http://www.leadership.com.br/produto_descricao.asp?codigo_produto=6708&familia=gamer )

Oh ok. I just thought maybe you had the powerstream and was wondering what you thought of it. I've never heard of Leadership but who knows it's a fast changing business...
