Not being rude, but check some Conroe related threads in this section. You'll find plenty of comparisons between the 9xx series and Conroe.

Nothing wrong with buying Presler now. A damn nice system you are planning.
The hard drives will work fine on either raid controller.
The onboard high definition audio is the bomb, even for the pickiest of gamers and audiophiles.
Pick a case with good air flow, maybe 120mm fans at front and back.
You can save a few bucks going with 955XE CPU and clocking it to the same speed. These are variable speed processors and you have the ability to adjust the multiples upwards to increase CPU speed. With the Zalman you will not have any problems running at the faster speeds and can even go higher.

True, A 965/955 presler now would be a quick system. But to me buying a top of the line CPU now thats going to be outdated and have its performance equalled and/or bettered by much cheaper conroes, (not to mention its incredible drop in value that must surely result from its sudden inferiority) in 2 months. Now someones going to chime in with the argument that you cant wait arround forever because theres always something better on the horizon. This is true but lets say I buy a 955XE when they first came out. I'd have the fastest CPU for a good many months without massive price cuts, so in essence I get more value for money than buying a chip for roughly the same price as its launch price when its going to be inferior (and worth an awful lot less) in 2 months.
Of course if you have the budget to have the fastest thing right now, and then dump it in 2 months for the new latest £700 extreme edition all the bells and whistles CPU then buying the 965 now makes sense.
**Edit** musmus, check the thread entitled somethign like 'final clarification regarding conroe motherboard support'. It states that ONLY REVISION 304 of the Intel 975XBX Bad Axe supports conrow, other revisions do not.

If you get the '304' revision of the Bad Axe you should be ok for conroe. Keep that in mind when ordering, as Intel is in the process of shipping these boards out as we 'post'/speak... The 302 and 303 revision which most likely is what stores have at the moment will not work with conroe.

well if i wait for 3 months for the conroe thats about 6 to 8 months in uk to wait becoz until now the 965EE is not out
thanks for ur replays

You cant really say that. It depends how well co-ordinated intels launch is. We saw with nvidias 7800 and 7900 launches that its possible to get masses of product lined up ad retailers and etailers around the world for a global release date. If nVidia can do it I'm sure Intel can, especially for something big like Conroe (a whole new architechture, not just 1 CPU, not to mention taking the performance crown back from AMD which it looks set to do).

I dont know if yours will, because Intel will not change the product name when they release the new revision of the board, so if you buy 1 right now its luck of the draw whether you get a revision 304 board or an earlier revision which does not support Conroe. I dont know of any UK vendors, your best bet is to use places like www.froogle.co.uk and www.kelkoo.co.uk to try and track one down, and then email the company and ask them what revision the boards are.

I guess the case will do but for top class cases check www.xcase.co.uk www.overclockers.co.uk and www.scan.couk for Silverstone, Lian Li and Coolermaster. RAM is also a good choice but the OCZ 2x1GB PC6400 Platinum XTC is worth a look, rated DDR800 4-5-4-12.
