View Full Version : Will lower temps improve performance of Conroe?

I ask because now that heat is no longer an issue will it be necessary to WC when overclocking? In other words does a cooler temp improve performance of Conroe vs. higher temps like the Presler, Prescott, etc?

Lower temps will ALWAYS improve performance. OTOH, will Conroe need WC to be fast as hell? No.

are you sure?:D
*a64 coldbug  *

isn't the coldbug supposed to be a flaw in the integrated MC?

or a bios setting? :P

That is correct. A few models do not have that problem (FX 57 I think or something like that). But some of them coldbug as bad as 5C+ (outdoors in norway in the summer :P No I doubt we will see coldbugging on Conroe but then you never know. Also keep in mind Intel is using a totally different process... :fact: They are not using SOI so that may be part of it... Who knows...

Should be interesting to see in the coming months just how much of a difference phase makes on Conroe. Might be the case that you can only take it a further 500mhz or so... maybe the architecture will top out on FSB before heat?
The day one of the big boys on the forum here gets a Conroe EE is going to be a very interesting one indeed!
Does anyone know the safe tolerances yet in terms of VCORE voltage on these Conroes? Because its all new ground how will we know if we're giving them too much? (electromigration, etc)

Fugger tells of a cold boot related bug to do with low sub zero temps on the 65nm processor here.

Luckily it's different to the AMD style cold bug as it's only related to booting.
I would say that at the moment it looks like we'll need some new boards with better fsb capabilities to max out chips like the e6600 and below.

I think that the question was about conroe + wc, not a64 + phase... ;)
