Hey guys, I need your help finding out whats the ICs are in my GEIL Value Ram with Blue Heat Spreaders. On the front to the heatspreader it says the following:
512mb PC3200
DDR400 CL=2.5-8-4-4
GE1GB3200BDC
Maid in Taiwan

On the back it says:
41517 00068
710728 280399
PN1035 SN5025480

If anyone knows please speak up...

David

insufficient information to find out the required information..
Perhaps you could make this easy and just remove the heatspreaders and look at the ICs or perhaps post a pic of the IC so we can tell you what it is..

only if you tell them, that you removed it. (or pulled off a chip while doing it, which virtually never happens)

There are two primary methods
1)
1. Max your vdimm and loop memtest86 test 5 to heat up the stick and soften the adhesive.

2. Power off the system and remove stick.

3. Pull off the spring clip that squeezes the heatspreaders against the chips. Slide an old void credit card or similar between the heatspreader and PCB. This is to protect the circuit board and chips from the next step...

4. Use a thin wide blade screwdriver to gently pry off the heatspreader. Slide the screwdriver blade in between the heatspreader and plastic card, then twist gently. Start from one end of the stick and work your way to the other end. Make sure the plastic card is always protecting the pcb and/or ram chips from the screwdriver blade.

If the adhesive does not release, do not force-pry it! Go back to step 1.

If you keep the adhesive on the spreaders clean, it's not too hard to put the spreaders back on later...

and 2)

There is a way to remove the spreaders without risk of PWB/chip damage ;) I use a metal "dental pick", gently insert it with a twisting motion between the clip and the spreader right at the point where the slot is in the spreader. Once it's in far enough, the dimple in the clip is lifted free of the slot and presto, clip slides right off like this:

Once clips are removed, wedge inside edge of thumbs between spreaders and PWB while gently cupping fingers under DIMM and open the spreader like a clam. Done, no damage to anything :D
