so if run sp2004 on small ffts on dual prime for about 7 hrs. is that consider stable computer system? do i have to test the ram? should the ram crash in small ffts or is small ffts only testing cpu?

What's stable and what isn't is a personal preference, I would have been happy if my very sucky SD3700+ had would be stable for even 1hr but it's around 10 - 15mins stable @ 2.7GHz 1.65V. Some prefer 24hr+ stability, some thinks 1hr is enough.
In my case I don't drop the fsb due to I'm so dissappointed with the speed and would have wanted a lot higher clock, and I use this clock setting as long as no games or apps start to crash. It requires about 5min or lower prime stable runs for me for games to start crashing and with 10 - 15mins it doesn't seem to crash. I think in order for me to get 1hr+ stable I would have to drop it to ~2.62GHz and still 1.6 - 1.65V so yea I'm a VERY unlucky SD3700+ owner...
EDIT: for me an OCCT stress test run or 1hr prime session is enough, my current cpu is an exception tho. As for memory stability, if it can run memtest86 test #5 for over an night without an error that is enough for me alternatively prime blend test 1hr.

I would do the full 24 hours. Use Windows memtest for ram.

do a p95 blend test with ...well if u have 1gb then use 800 and if 2gb use liek 1800
Why doesn`t you download Occt and use that for testing how stable your opty are.
It is much better and only 30min test :)

you could pass 32m pi and OCCT perfectly but fail prime in 5 minutes. 30 minutes, says it all. That means 30 minutes stable OCCT.

Stable is beeing able to use your computer for several days without crash.
This includes normal use IE. Surfing, gaming etc.

u need to create 2 XP users and run one in each user...

from best to worst regarding stabilty of the processor.
Folding
Priming
Gaming
OCCT
SuperPI
Normal use (word, ie, chat...)
Screenshot
Boot
BIOS
S&M could fit somewhere between Priming and Folding aswell. It can heat up things alot (more than Prime), but I don't know if it really tests anything... it just crashes and freezes your system.

To determine stability is best use prime 95 torture tests. Even stable memtest is worth nothing, when prime fails - and it does and much faster.
This is for CPU test:

Memory test:

PWM test:

biohead - I disagree on you with the folding. I fold a lot, and folding does stress CPU well, but nowhere near the Prime torture SMAL FFT test and most importantly it won't stress ram much, if at all. :nono: :nono: :nono:
So, suggesting folding is not entierly responsible and you know that :D

Yeah i agree, folding isn't going to stress test a CPU like Prime95. You could be folding away and outputing errors which by the way doesn't help but hurts the whole point in folding. Prime95 Small FFTs are what your suppost to run for just testing the CPU. Small FFTs are called small because they fit into the L2 cache and stress the cache and FPU. Large FFTs and Blend are more for stressing the memory controller, the HyperTransport link, and the memory.
And if your system can't pass at least 8 hours of Prime95 i wouldn't consider it stable at all. If you want pretty much 100% stability then you should shoot closer for 24 hours. The reason why you see so many high overclocks being reported sometimes is because people run Prime95 for like an hour or two and then take a screenshot. The CPU would probably fail if it had run for 4-8 hours.
