Nice post. I also noticed that there are a lot of people latlely ( even some with a lot of posts) that start insulting other people without a reason. Too bad those people dont behave here like they would in real life (or maybe they do..).
Threat other people the way you like to be threated.

Avatar is from Otep.

We dont care about fanboyism as it stands. However. There have been many people who are taking their fanboyism to the extreme and jumping down peoples throats, screaming in threads of the 'other' side of the fence simply becuase they disagree or think the other people are wrong. With nothing to show the facts that stand behind their statements.
We are not trying to crush opinions, hell, thats what makes the forums go 'round.

As an example, say someone just got a new conroe, and got a so-so OC or even a great one. Some idgit will step in with nothing to say other than say the conroe sucks go to the other side. Put some thought into the post, giving constructive critisism is fine.
Saying AMD sucks because my Intel didnt do the same thing, is what will not be allowed.

What it comes down to is this.

If you have nothing good/constructive to say. Then shut it. ;)

As in your post sillysider03, you made an honest statement with what you understood things to be. Ignorant, my fault on that, but nothing wrong with it as it stands.

Sorry, Hope I clarified a bit.

But I bet if you treated people with a bit more leniency and respect, rather than shoving rules down their throats, they will act more civil and behave in a more mature manner...
the mods and admin have been EXTREMELY lenient here for a long time, and the general attitude doesn't seem to be getting any better. if anything, just worse because people keep pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with further and further..... ;)

I think these need to be stickied at the top of all the forums. And they are certainly good rules, and hopefully should help improve the place A LOT.

XS is actually quite forgiving, I've heard rumours of people being banned for asking questions on EOCF.

Just a question, I frequently read up in the news section and a couple of things really really really piss me off and I really see no reason why people continue to do what they always do.

Often you will see a news post about for example Microsoft, people will be shouting Linux linux linux. If there is a newspost about Linux people go Microsoft Microsoft Microsoft. If there is one about IE it's FireFox FireFox FireFox, if it's about FireFox people go IE IE IE. If it's Sony people shout XBox, any MP3 player they shout out Ipod etc etc.

You see what I'm getting at? I would like to see a newspost and people discussing the newspost or the subject of the newspost and not the competitors position. Only offcourse when the competitors position is really relevant aka a related newsposting or a related direct action.

We all know who's competing with who in this world, for once I would like to see a newspost discussed in a newspost thread on XS.

Also the thread I made in this forum about more minimum characters in a post would seem relevant, this may help enforce the rules.

This: "If you have nothing good/constructive to say. Then shut it." can be applied to a lot of posters here, thank you for finally taking more progressive action.

This is great. It would be even better if IFMU would start posting around the forum more often. That way more people are aware of the rules :)

The rules are there to be followed at all times, not when it is felt the need.

we will begin handing out vacations and perma bans if we
feel it is necessary

Just couldn't refuse :D

IFMU you are right about everything you say by the way :fact:

I agree to this as long as mods don't start enforcing rules that aren't written anywhere.

I'm sure that the mods will what is neccesary to keep this from turning to the [H]. I don't know how it got so big with Kyle being, IMHO, such an a$$hole

being kinda active at [H] (http://www.hardforum.com/member.php?u=61470), that's somewhat insulting, though true in a way. :D

Tinker has a good point though. while enforcement is always a good thing, what happened and why needs to be clear :toast:

unfortuanatly it seems there is a fine line between respect and leniency.

But it is the posters responsibility to know what he/she is saying, and thinking about it, before it is said goes a along way to being respected in that if a post is contrucstive/intelligent/ or in some light positive while still stating the opposition to an arguement, or situation then the reigns would not have to be "so Tight"

My dad used to always say "engage brain, before mouth" if more people did that, XS and other forums would be a scary place because we all would learn something. :D

Okay back to reality "grabs a blow torch, and a 2 gallon container of gas" "FLAME ON:CTF: :flame: !"

I'm not sure I understand what the issue is-- Moderators moderate, that is their job, purpose and calling. The Admins entrust the moderators to use fair judgement and consistent rulings to ensure that the forums are easy to read and user-friendly.

One cannot qualify and quantify every rule and eventuality, that's why there are so few mods-- they are trusted with the power to make the judgement calls, and any board that is worth its readership has a tight-knit group of moderators who all share the same philosophies, so there is little dispute.

Whether or not they disagree over any particular issue, as far as the readership goes, the mods have a united front, for better or worse.

A moderator needs only answer to his peers and the admins, if he gets out of line, they will ensure he is corrected, or replaced.

When a mod feels obligated to answer to regular members, then her ability to render those judgement calss becomes restricted, and the forums suffer.
