ok i been away from the desktop stuff for a few months and am totally out of touch and i been away from intel for much longer.

today i got my paws on a Pent D 955 Extreme

3.46ghz Dual Core Extreme SL8WM (yes the new one)(is it even retail yet ?)
2x2m L2
1066 FSB

according to intel its got HT so.. is that just meaning HT as in dual core or is this one of the Hyper Threading Dual cores that shows 4 cores in Task manager.

i also got a 7800 GTX (dont know if its 256 or 512m yet as its OEM so none of the numbers are coming up with anything but i did find one that seems to be a 256meg)

also got 2gig of PC5300 Samsung DDR2

so taking that into perspective i dont plan on running SLI although i wish the 975X boards were that..

but anyways i always see alot of really mixed stuff on the various popular boards.. unlike AMD where, not always, but many times you knew what was good and what wasnt.

1)
that Asus P5D2L or whatever its called.
i'll say upfront asus, out of all the baords i have owned intel or amd has never, and i mean NEVER been any good ever asus board i have had either died right away,, or was DOA or was just a total piece of :banana::banana::banana:.
so this 975X board i am seeing, well i see fugger modded his to get some nice results but i dont believe in modding a motherboard that :banana::banana::banana: should crnak out right from the box.. so aside from modding it.. i mean i think asus is just putting glitter on the crap to make it look good. i dont know though..
2)
gigabyte 975X board yeah .. i wont go there.. nope havent read one good thing about it.
3)
abit ? anything there ?
4)
DFI ? have they made it into the 975 ring yet ?

im totally lost gents and ask for your assistance.
i truly dont know what baord to get but will take all suggestions and weigh them accordingly with other results i find around the internet.

it can be 955 or 975 or whatever chipset that just truly kicks hardcore ass and overclocks incredibly well.
that is key for me stability at high clocks...
i will be pushing this chip as far as my water setup will let me.. so.. bear tht in mind.

price ?

mobo prices are getting way way out of hand and i wont pay more than 200 for a board.
in fact i would MUCH rather stay around the 150 dollar range if thats possible...

thanks in advance all for your thoughts and opinions.

wow i sounded like a :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::b anana::banana: in that post

didnt mean to sound that way but money is limited and i want to make sure i get the best bang for the buck.
i have had WAY WAY too much bad luck with hardware over the last two years going thru countless processors, ram and mobo{s andvideo cards so i need to make sure i do it right the first time.

even if the ASUS P5Dl2 e or whatever it is is called is the real baord to get then by god ill get it.. but things are just so sketchy its always hard to know.

i do need some help fellas as i want to order it asap.

p5wd2 is a better choice then the Ld2... you spent all that money on the cpu, get the board to compliment it... p5wd2 e- premium

I have the 955xe also, awesome chip. Have run it on both the P5WD2 and P5WD2-E boards which are both very good. The P5WD2 is 955 based and the majority of them run over 1500 FSB while only a few P5WD2-E's handle over 1500. Either board will need a droop mod if you run the 955 over 4.2Ghz.

Don't forget your PSU, should have 20A dedicated for the CPU over 4.2GHz

who said i paid for the chip or anything else.
its nice when you have friends in the business :)

lol cirthix i assume you were posting that for some other forum ?

yeah i had a quick chat with fugger and he said the P5W -E was killer.

and the whole droop modding man i hate asus lol.. wtf why couldnt they just put the 8phase power on that thing ggrrrr

yes i have ever intension of going as far beyond 4.2ghz as that chip will let me on water.

and the psu is an ocz Powerstream 600w

is there anything on the horizon from anyone else for the 975x chipset ?
what ever happened to DFI ? they are still stuck on the 915 crap ? according to their website

still looking for GOOD mobo's available or up-n-coming for this chip.

im torn on the Asus i really am,, i've owned 3 asus baords and everyone of them was just a turd,, and as time passed i did my reading and was never impressed with asus they just have some seriously overpriced baords that are major under performers unless you do alot of modding to them.
this is unacceptable and the commnity needs to le asus know in no certain terms will we allow this to happen for $225 they need to be making motherboards that just kick the crap out of everything else, and they arent the nforce 4 intel baords are still overall a better choice, but seem to be lacking in the clocking,, but maybe i didnt read enough reviews im unsure at this point.

all i can say is this 955 Extreme is going to need the right board, not jsut for overclocking but for simple hardware support, and i am having issues finding other chipsets that even support it.

i will say i did like most of the reviews of the asus 975X board but they all came back to the same end results, no 8 phase power which was needed, and flakey FSB once you get so high.

ill buy one if thats my only choice but i just want more users from here to chime in about it other than a few who modded their baords to make it run better.
i am game to mod mine but dang for $225 why should i have to ..??
