I remember someone got a perfect tool for removing an IHS for like $1 at the store.
Can anyone link me to this thread/post? I want to take a pic of it to Home Depot...
Thanks

I remember this too...it was a green tool that had a razor that only was exposed by around 1/8" of an inch.

The blade on that seems too thick, i used a razor sharp shaving blade that is paper thin and it cut through it like a hot knife through butter, took all of 2min to pop it off.

It uses the standard razor blades which are fine for IHS removal (I used one on a Tualeron way back and a shim on a 9700).
I found one at OSH for $1.39 though it is black instead of the Opteron matching green :slap:

Yup, its only the first IHS removal which is a hassle, the rest come off in seconds.

It's called "String Theory" and it ain't rocket science..."Flossing" never felt so goood.....
I would probably try it with floss or a thin cable. If I used a knife, I'd end up cutting a bunch of resistors off and half my finger, again.

stanley razor... IHS removal tool, as5 spreader, tube cutter, wrist slicer, you name it 10 for $1
yup take a razor blade like pictured above and use some blk elect tape wrap it around the blade exposing like 1/8 inch and use that. works like a charm. i must admit who ever does invent a real tool you can buy to remove these ihs's they will make a crap load of cash!

really, you think... I can't see spending any money on a real tool, when i can pop an IHS with that razor in 10 - 20 secs and they can be found at grocery stores, hardware stores, convenience stores...
